Genuinely curious....."handbrake"?
Most head unit with a screen want this wire, and will only let you play videos when handbrake wire is grounded (handbrake/e-brake engaged), as a safety "feature". If you leave that wire unconnected/floating then it wont play video. Of course many self-installers will just hook it up to a hard ground and thus can play videos whenever....

edit: sorry, I see this was already answered

I don't care about AM/FM...I can figure out how to stream them with my fone. But?

Screw streaming & Bluetooth.

I want to play my CD collection (accumulated over the past 25 years)...wired. ;-)

My mixed-tape collection is legendary, ask anyone! I would be negligent if I didn't even try to fit a cassette deck in there somehow. So I get where you're coming from!

If Slate doesn't come out with a single/double DIN stereo adapter for the center panel I will be making one myself so that I can install a system with an AUX port, TF card slot, USB input and maybe a CD player (just for fun). I'm not sure if I want a unit with a display, I kind of want to keep it minimal.

I wouldn't want a "display"...isn't that what the cell fone is for? ;-)

If I did a display it would be so I could add a passenger side mirror camera and have the feed appear when I push a button. My Honda Fit has something similar and I have gotten used to it. I'm just not sure if it is worth having an ugly screen.

I’d stuff an Eton radio or similar in the glove compartment and call it a day.

Gotcha. Although I’m 68, but perhaps more comfortable with tech. My understanding is a phone will be helpful for pretty much everything on this truck. It’ll show important things like charge status and remaining range. Without one, it’s sort of like a gasser missing a fuel gauge. (I also suspect that us old people are not a primary target market.)
Looks like that info may be in the center cluster display

Lots. Just....lots.
Back in the day I took a band saw and cut the face off the OEM knob'd cassette stereo in my 86 Ranger and removed all the working parts behind it so it was just a big hole. I installed an amp in its place and used an RCA to headphone jack cable to drop the hookup out through the cassette door like i had a crappy cassette adapter in it. I plugged my Walkman or cd player or phone or anything else into it and played whatever i wanted through the system. When it wasnt being used it looked like i had a bone stock stereo, not the $1k system I'd replaced everything with. I never locked the doors. :)
