Report: Slate Factory Delivery Under Consideration! Would Take Place In This Room

As I understand it, Slate cannot legally sell directly to end customers in the state of Indiana. The only OEM that is allowed to is Tesla. My expectation is that the Slate legal department is working to get this law changed. Let's assume that they succeed.

The model that Slate has presented is for a vehicle to be delivered to a customer by a Slate Delivery Partner. If accessories are to be included, this partner will install them prior to delivery. The cost for this service includes shipping the vehicle (rail or truck) to the Delivery Partner, as well as the cost of delivering the accessories and installing them.

What if a Delivery Partner was co-located at the factory? The costs would be reduced because shipping the vehicle would be avoided. The costs related to shipping and installing the accessories remain. The factory itself is unaffected by this and focuses solely on building blank slates (except that some vehicles are not shipped).

In my view is the world, those of us willing to travel scenic Warsaw save the cost of shipping the vehicle. I intend to purchase a blank Slate and there for expect to avoid nearly all delivery costs, while those wishing for accessories to be installed prior to delivery still avoid vehicle shipping costs.

As an added bonus, I hope Slate would line up an intern or someone to provide factory tours.

It'd be about 200 miles for me, so likely doable with the larger battery without stopping to charge, unless it's winter. I'd definitely go for that option.

I intend to purchase a blank Slate and there for expect to avoid nearly all delivery costs, while those wishing for accessories to be installed prior to delivery still avoid vehicle shipping costs.

And if Slate needs to “sell” this idea to the town or county that prohibits direct sales, consider that folks traveling to Warsaw might be a boom to the local economy, including hotels, restaurants, and service industries. Some folks might want to make a small vacation when they arrive to make the most of the experience.

Not a show stopper but something to keep in mind. I just drive thru Warsaw and found the factory. And FYI, Warsaw isn't a vacation destination. Not yet anyway. Super exited for Slate.

About 3 hours for me. That's a motorcycle ride. The problem is how do I get the motorcycle home afterwards. Uhaul trailer, probably.

I hope you take delivery in the late Spring, in this case. Indiana winters can be unpleasant. I like your creative problem solving. I guess pulling no more than 1500# trailer would work...you'd be a frequent charger on the way home?

I'm waiting for someone to offer to take a Greyhound to Warsaw...then I KNOW that they are serious (and probably getting the Blank Slate!).

It was either Greyhound or Trailways for me. The terminals were on same street adjoining corners growing. All the Army posts in my early career had a bus station as well.

As someone 200 miles away, and farther north, I am well aware of what winter is. I also rode all the way into November last year, and started again in March of this year. Theres these amazing things called "Jackets", "Pants', and "Gloves" you can wear to keep warm!

I know, technology, right???

As for charging: I might have to charge twice on the way home. Boo-hoo. Woe is me. I might as well cancel my order. Get outta here.
