No these lil trucks aren't meant to be any kind of performance vehicle, but if me and my mate Paul both got one on the same day. You can bet we'd know which is the fastest by the time the sun went down.

If ya spec your Slate for less than 30k, that's a pretty cheap way to go racing. It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. 🤪

A full circuit might be too long for the range of the battery, but a Slate spec autox would be pretty cool.

Driving slow cars fast is some of the most fun you can have! SCCA used to pit lightly modified Fits, Mazda 3s, Fiestas, and Sparks/Sonics against each other and it looks like a barrel of fun!

About 10 years ago I went to an SCCA autoX inspired advanced driving course and they were allowing people to use SUVs as long as they had stability control, so the Slate would be more than allowed in! It ended up being a course intended for teens but it was a skidpad, slalom, emergency lane change course, and full accel/panic stop section where the final 'award' was they set up an autocross course for everyone. I stuck around as I had just bought my Country Squire and was planning on taking it across the country so I wanted to know how it handled in emergencies. Handled better than I thought! But there were teenagers in CRVs and even one in a 100-series LandCruiser slinging it around!

A bunch of my friends Autocross so if I got my hands on a Slate early I'd definitely try to sneak it in!

That's what I was imagining! A bit of autocross, 1/4 mile circle track maybe? Heck a few hot laps around an abandoned mall?
A cross country rally? All built to the same spec. the main thing is that they're identical, so it'd all be up to the driver. I think it could be great fun in a 24hours of Lemons kind of way.

If the Slates are fun to drive, they'll probably be fun to drive in groups.

You'd have people taking off their composite panels for weight savings, like you see on some drift trucks!

I wonder how torquey the EV drivetrain will be? Especially on just the rears with the traction assist off.

This is why we need a race series. Some crazy guys home brewing speed in their garage will improve the performance.
