From my research I think there's a good chance the Slate will have NCM9 cells. The same cells SK On supplies for the Ford F-150 Lightning

"NCM9 Battery developed by SK On and produced by SK Battery America

The NCM9 battery derives its name from the key components it comprises: nickel, manganese, and cobalt,
represented by 'NCM,' with the '9' signifying its impressive nickel composition, nearly reaching 90%.
This elevated nickel content translates to superior energy density and an extended driving range,
making it a preferred choice for enhanced performance."

Interesting, what makes you think that? Is that the only cell that SK On makes here in the US?

(Not being argumentative, just curious!)

It's the only one I've found in the pouch format they make in the US. I could be wrong and I'm continuing to look for more information.

Edit: just found this
The Slate Truck will be powered by SK On’s high-nickel NCM (nickel-cobalt-manganese) battery, renowned for its energy density, safety, and performance. This supports Slate’s goal of offering a radically affordable EV, while maintaining reliability and quality driving experience.

How does that battery stack up against other lithium batteries? I’d like something that is rated for more charge cycles than performance.

From the reports on Ford lightning batteries, it's been pretty good so far. But it only came out in 2022.
The cells did have some manufacturing defects at first but that has since been ironed out. It's good to know the cells aren't a "first year" design.
I honestly think this battery should last 200,000-300,000 miles if we're just talking about cycle life. But things do break, hopefully they build the pack for repairability like Ford did.

SK On is a south Korean battery manufacturer that is looked as a positive source by the USA as an ally nation used by Ford Lightning EV trucks.

My Mach E NMC are sourced from Poland but the battery manufacturing is switching to Michigan....

"A battery charge cycle is the process of charging and discharging a rechargeable battery until it reaches its full capacity. It's not just charging from 0–100%, but rather using the equivalent of the battery's full capacity. For example, charging from 50–100% two days in a row counts as one cycle."

Almost ashamed to admit my lack of knowledge in this area. My home batteries are warranted 10,000 cycles, so over 27 years if recylced every day. possible life time warranty for me. 😁

So, if I understand correctly, someone with a Standard battery and 20 mile commute could possibly be doing 1 cycle/week, 52 cylces/ year? A 1000 cycle battery could last 19 years depending other factors?

I didn't check your math, but yes, you have the correct idea! And rated cycles are within a certain percentage of battery degragation, a common threshold is 80% capacity remaining.

Ok, 20 miles per day @ 7 days =, 140/ week, round to 150, the projected mileage of a standard battery
1000 cycles divided by by 52 weeks/ year = 19.23 years
