Slate Auto CCO talks affordability, flexibility, and more

On this really quick episode of Quick Charge, Slate Auto’s Chief Commercial Officer Jeremy Snyder believes his new truck is the right size and price to drive fleet adoption AND fandom. We only had a few minutes with Jeremy, and Slate is nearly ready for prime time!

Slate Auto had a well-optioned, work-focused version of their upcoming compact electric pickup on display at ACT Expo 2026. The preproduction truck was fitted with ladder racks and wrapped in white vinyl, and some of the staff on hand even teased a utility-style “van” body.

Regardless of which body style you choose, Slate will offer its affordable trucks with a choice of two US-made SK On nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery packs – the base model gets 52.7 kWh and a 150 mile range while more upscale trucks get an 84.3 kWh battery with up to 240 miles of range. The two battery will be the only Slate option that gets installed at the factory (the rest of the available options will be installed by the “dealer” at the point of sale).

I would love to see how a Slate van would differ from the "SUV".

Cargo topper package with rear double door instead of tailgate.
Hadn’t thought of that. Could interesting. For me, likely come down to consideration of the configuration vs costs. I just want a topper with access from cab via window like a Leer top as this is for my dogs, but other configurations would work. I know getting the SUV kit for about $5k and not installing seat isn’t financially attractive. Prefer not to have the rollbar either.

I think the roll bar is only needed if you plan on having rear passengers. I thought Slate had mentioned a cargo top was in the works.

I am curious alternative rear opening:
Drop Tailgate
May be a 180 deg drop down tailgate that gets the tail gate out of the way.
cargo van style double doors.
Roll up door.
