I took down my wise ass post. Looking at the body on white, there does appear to be an opening.

My concern would be placement in the plastic panel.

Years ago, I remember people had them retrofit. Leaks were always a challenge.

It would be a very interesting project.

If it happens i would rather it be a factory installed option designed for the Slate roof. Sunroofs can be tricky. I installed one a long time ago, it was fine for about a year before the leaks started. That was in a steel roof, not sure if the plastic would handle it as well.

I guess it would depend on how the roof frame is set up with the outer roof panel . Like does it have a steel sheet under the outer plastic panel or is it just an extra thick plastic roof panel glued to a steel inner frame

I haven't seen anything about it but anyone else like the idea of having a a sun or moon roof? If there is no doom light I feel it would be a easy install with off the shelf components.
You do you. But I'm vehemently against any sun/moon roof in a vehicle I have to drive. I'm all for seeing the DIY install threads/videos, but I'll be happy with a solid roof that can't leak.... Hopefully.

Really? Search harder, lots of discussion last year. Including a manufacturer/installer

I’ve had one in my past 3 cars. Never leaked. Each of the cars were 10-12 y/o.

I still don’t want it because I never used it.

I've had two vehicles with a sun/moon roof and they both leaked immediately. Probably bad luck, but one was an 04 Ford SportTrack, the other was an 09 VW Golf. I used each maybe 3 times. I've been a solid roof guy ever since.

It's been quoted by Slate engineers that the hood and ceiling panels have a higher concentration of glass fibers and are bonded to the steel frame - with some suggestion that greater structural strength was needed. Maybe that is purely to achieve a specific rollover "safety rating" and not super important... but it caught my attention. I too, have jig sawn out a few roofs in my day, but that was before we gave safety in extreme scenarios too much thought.

I'm not sure I would be willing to do that again.

Pretty much the opposite here. Have one both my Tundra and wife’s Ascent. Use them practically every time we drive. Much rather open and get a breeze than use the AC.

Only one of my RX-7's leaked. A drain hole had plugged up and that caused it. A friends Firebird with a T roof leaked all the time. All back in the day !

I recall just popping the Sunroof open and letting all the hot air out.

I've always liked the IDEA of a sunroof but in practice, wind noise and the baking sun on my head......no thanks. Never used em on the vehicles I had opportunity. But hey, that's just me. Enjoy your Slate any way y'all like.

I'm bald. Therefore, I don't like them. I have plenty of pre-cancer up on that dome already. I can wear a hat, but when it is warm, hats are hot. In summer, I keep the shutter on the Honda closed.

I admit, for a few days each spring and fall, with a low sun angle and warm day, they are glorious. But for me, that's a rare event. Not a use case I care about.

I wonder if any of the aftermarket company's that specializes in jeep body panels, might get into slate body parts. They could maybe come up with roof kits. The bolt on body panels would make widebody kits a snap.
