Hi, In preparation for ordering, what items can be installed after delivery. I am considering the larger battery. But can all other options be added later?

The only option from the factory is the battery. Everything else gets added after it comes off the line, and they’ve said that everything is designed to be able to be done yourself. I believe they advertised early on that it would take a couple of hours to install the SUV kit, for example

As cowboy said, everything but the battery can be. Whether you personally want to or not might be a different story: installing some options may involve lifting heavy or bulky things, applying the correct torque to fasteners, landing electrical connections, removing fiddly trim panels, or applying some level of skill.

In particular, the rear seats and rollbars for the SUV kits will be safety-critical items. If you leave bolts loose, cross-thread them, or overtorque them and strip them out, that could be deadly in a rollover. So do it right, don't do it wrong!

Also, the wraps can be ordered and installed DIY after the fact. But a clean wrap install without wrinkles, bubbles, or trapped debris is a bit of an art form; really good installers make it look easy and effortless with the glove and squeegee and knife and tape, barely even needing a heat gun on an easy wrap job like the Slate... but I doubt your first try will be perfect. I want to DIY my wrap, but I'll probably buy some cheap raw materials to practice with before I risk messing up the pretty but pricey metal flake/flip versions.

Thanks, That's exactly what I thought and wanted to hear. This is part of what makes this unique.

I am curious about when and whether you get the removed components if you get an option from the factory. Will you just check a box in your order?

I expect that for some components, people won't want the waste. If you "upgrade" to power windows after the fact, you'll take the door card off, remove the manual crank and gear, remove the lock-only trim insert, and replace it with the electric motor and window plus lock trim insert. You can do that after the fact, sure! But if you order power windows at purchase time, does it come with those parts preinstalled? If so, do they also ship you a box with the manual crank and lock-only trim insert that were "removed" from your vehicle?

In particular, it looks like the open-air version is just a fastback without some of the body panels and especially without the rear glass of the pickup. If you click "buy" with the open-air version selected, do you still get that rear glass for conversion back to a pickup? Or if you only wanted the open-air version, do you have to store the rear glass somewhere?

If you get the standard 17" steelies and standard tires, you get those, if you later order the 20" alloy rims and all-terrain tires, those will come later. But if you order the 20" alloys from the factory, I assume you don't still get the steel rims and their tires. Is there a discount to ordering some stuff with your purchase?

Great question. I was thinking of just getting the larger battery and add other options later. The power windows are a great example.

I share your concerns; I will be ordering with the 20" wheels, different bumpers, etc. I really wonder if we will get the option of getting a discount by opting out of receiving the old tires, bumpers, etc. Maybe that is how they can recoup the expense of mounting these extras for you "for free" by keeping the unwanted parts to rotate back into production.

I read this and chuckle as I wonder once you do get your practice wrap acceptable just how eager you will be to strip it off and redo. (Or just say, I like it and keep it.)

Gotta love Slates answers. I recently asked about delivery, you can guess the answer.

Of course they are going to keep the old parts. I hope they offer a Factory installed hitch. I don't intend to tow but for bike racks, baskets things like that.

I'm pretty sure Slate will build the truck with only one option installed from the factory - the battery, whether it's the standard range or extended. Everything else will be shipped and installed later either by the owner or someone else.

This would indicate that leftover, unused parts from any accessory install are yours.

Yes, Slate is a single model — by design. While most automakers create sprawling lineups, our philosophy is about doing one thing exceptionally well: building a vehicle that’s durable, adaptable, and future proof.

Every Slate Truck starts the same way: a 2-seat pickup that what we call the Blank Slate. It's simple, capable, and ready to become whatever you want it to be. From there, you're not locked in. You build on it.
From the FAQ page:

How do accessories get installed?

You can choose how and where your accessories get installed:
  • DIY: easily install accessories at home with Slate University, our library of video tutorials and helpful how-to content.
  • Before delivery: get select accessories installed at the Slate delivery partner.
  • At a service partner: buy accessories after delivery and get them installed at your local Slate service location.

Do you offer “fully-loaded” vehicles with digital displays, stereos, power windows and more?

We don’t. Instead, we offer one standard model that can have as many or as few features as you want. If you want to make it fully loaded, go to town. These items and more can be purchased individually as accessories in our marketplace and can be installed at delivery, at a later date by a Slate service provider, or DIY using our Slate University video tutorials.

Please correct this if I got it wrong. Post some communication from Slate that says otherwise.

We'll know more closer to production!! lol 🤣

Edit: added FAQ section.

Well I think that would be great! Less production issues.

I’d say it’s amazing how people don’t understand one model with battery choice, cited by Slate in various places. Must be reading comprehension or lack thereof.
Behold the power of active imaginations & wishful thinking combined with social media! And I'm not immune to it's charms...

Edit: I also have to remind myself that not everyone has read through the Slate.auto website several times over looking for some new bit of info. That and obsessively reading forum posts over and over and over...
