Have to agree- This is no longer a "20k barebones runner"- it is now much more closely competing with other vehicles in the market. I hope the builds are a bit more comprehensive too. A 3d printed mount for a JBL speaker does not compete with a integrated speaker system and true infotainment. Sell a "audio package" that does it all "out of the box". Still have customization options, but sell a packaged option for those who don't want to DIY electrical on the entire truck.I still hope Slate, a few months down the line, dedicates a week per month building vehicles with a standard options package. Because I think there would be demand. And it would be cheaper for everyone than doing it after the sale. And less wasteful.
I get that they want to start by building a single configuration. But it is ecologically wasteful, unless the replaced bits are recovered. And it is less efficient and more costly, because you are buying a window opener twice.
I'm halfway ready to wager that Slate has been watching our online builds, and is reconsidering what they will deliver day one. Because I'll bet the vast majority of buyers are gonna want some creature comforts. And the whole narrative of a $20,000 truck after incentives is long gone - just like the $20,000 Maverick is a distant memory. So sure, deliver an initial run of stripper vehicles. What that demand falters, do a production run of something with more creature comforts.
