It may be worth buying and using an accessory telematics module through a data gathering corporate server with an annual service subscription in order to Remote Start an out of key fob range vehicle (close its HVB contactors for the PTC heater or air conditioner compressor), particularly if the LFP battery temperature regularly drops much below freezing. If the manual HVAC knobs are preset correctly, that can condition the cab. The hope of the OP and some others in this thread is that the app will have settings that bypass the knobs’ physical settings, getting them out of sync. I don’t think so, but we’ll see.
A Slate app must at least duplicate the fob—door lock and unlock, pop the frunk, and remote start. In the other direction, it should show at least battery State of Charge (SoC) percentage, Guess-O-Meter (GOM) miles remaining, Charge Rate/Status and hopefully Charge Time Remaining Estimate if charging, Doors and Frunk Lock Status, as well as confirmation of commands sent to the vehicle, including Remote Start Status. For fleet use, telematics will also continuously transmit location, speed, and direction to the server for tracking. It will consume LVB energy when the vehicle is off but will likely reduce the frequency of cellular GPS updates to save energy.
I don’t see the need for Slate to try to replicate Apple or Google Maps or ABRP if it can give them battery SoC and temperature as well as access to turn on battery preconditioning.
This is what I believe the bottom of the app home page looks like with GOM but not SoC, and buttons for audio and energy. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a graphic of the fob above it with buttons (but probably not). Perhaps someone has a better photo of it.
