1970 Chevy wagon…we bounced around in the back two seats like pinballs (and no AC!)If I recall correctly from my childhood, we solved the seatbelt problem for the middle passenger back in 1965

Here is a new combination seatbelt, shoulder harness, and head restraint system that I am thinking of implementing for the front passenger:This would probably require too much of a redo on design, because while shoulder belt and airbag might not technically be required ...
You've got a terminal condition and won't last long, I fear? Here is a new combination seatbelt, shoulder harness, and head restraint system that I am thinking of implementing for the front passenger:

Hello,Someone with more knowledge feel free to correct me, but I think bench seats went away due to safety regulations. So unlikely there would ever be an official part.
I would trade bigger door pockets and no console for a bench in a heartbeat. 2 little kids dropped off at school in a Slate without SUV pack would be awesome.I just did a quick search, and bench seats in trucks in specific models.
I’m torn on the bench seats, I love the retro vibe, but I also want the console for storage.
Let them sit on a tire in the bed of the truck like the good old days daysI have a family of three, and I would be delighted with a three-seat bench in the front. +1 from me
I’m down with that (as a child of the 1970’s), but our local county revenue officers would frown on that option on their roads…Let them sit on a tire in the bed of the truck like the good old days days
I see no reason it couldn't be an accessory and priced properly to cover development cost. Just like every other accessory. No bench seat from Slate please. That would be too much scope creep with all the additional safety equipment and testing that would drive up cost.
Let the aftermarket handle it.
Maybe a 3rd party opportunityI see no reason it couldn't be an accessory and priced properly to cover development cost. Just like every other accessory.
Define "any money". For some, a bench might preclude the SUV set up....It's the safety testing that is the issue. Front seats have airbags built into them on modern cars, so for Slate to offer a bench front seat, they would have to design a whole new seat with airbags in it, and do all the required crash testing that involves those airbags with that configuration. How many would they have to sell to be able to bring the cost down to a "reasonable" price?
I know some are vocal about bench seats here, but the number who would want to spend any money on it are probably limited.
