^^^This is exactly right. The Slate is still a good deal.Tax credits won’t last and Slate will be $30K, just bet on that to avoid disappointment in the future. Even at $30K, we’re talking most affordable BEV on the market. Even a single motor RWD Model 3 is $35K right now WITH the tax credit. The Model 3 has a stereo and autopilot but the Slate has the ability to haul mulch/sand/gravel back the house. Just depends on what you need.
No chance. 150 mi range will be $30K, long range will be $34K. I’ve followed EVs longer than I care to admit and that’s the unfortunate truth. But I’d love to be proven wrong as I do want one of these! If it’s $35K, which I don’t anticipate, I’ll just get a used Model 3 with more than twice the towing capacity. It has way more to offer as far as stereo and autopilot abilities. Slate needs to be cheaper than used cars to succeed and I’m rooting for them!If they can deliver on the mid 20s, I’m still in for sure. I’m hoping high 20s for the bigger battery.
I think there’s a good chance you’re proven wrong. Besides that I can’t stand when people make claims like this with definitive statements like “no chance” and “it WILL be” this or that. The fact is you don’t know. The entire business model of this vehicle was built on being an affordable vehicle. How affordable may depend on how thoroughly this administration trashes the economy, and they’re doing their best, but none of us really know what’s going to happen. No chance. 150 mi range will be $30K, long range will be $34K. It’s a barebones truck with limited range and only two doors. It’s got the cool customizability, but it has to be cheaper to be competitive as it’s equipped. The central ethos of this company is built around making an affordable (cheap) vehicle.Slate needs to be competitive, not cheaper. And competitive is a value proposition, not a price tag. I need a truck/SUV (work). But what I want is a vehicle that is basic, I can work on myself, that the dealer wont have conniption fits because I take things apart and modify them, and that has a fully documented (and open) design. Basically the exact opposite of a Tesla. If it costs more than a tesla its STILL worth it to me. Not every one is lowest-price driven. It's nice, but I'm willing to pay for value.
Cheaper than WHAT used car? A 25 year old S10 or a 3 year old X6?
My expectation for a Blank Slate Standard Range is 25K-27K. It's a hard sell for a bare bones truck at 30K. Either way the key for Slate is going to have the most attractive monthly payment financing options.Tax credits won’t last and Slate will be $30K, just bet on that to avoid disappointment in the future. Well, I admit, I’m probably a little biased after seeing the tri-motor Cybertruck go from a $70K estimate at reveal to $100K at delivery. We’ve already gone from under 20K to mid 20s for the estimate for the Slate, so I sayI think there’s a good chance you’re proven wrong. $30K at release.“it WILL be”
