Quite honestly, as much as people hate ads, having them in your car seems like a safety issue. How much road rage are we going to see due to ads that drivers can't do anything about?
Pretty sure they'll show up only at startup, in Park or Neutral, and maybe when stopped with the brake on. Still monumentally annoying.

Will enshittification creep in so hard that we can't select Drive until we've watched a 30-second ad? Christ, I hope not.

This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I feel like the SUV kit is little more than a parlor trick. It makes for a cool demo that gets press coverage, but Slate's biggest selling point it offers something that's been abandoned in the US - a small pickup.

As soon as you give up the pickup form-factor, you have a $30k-ish short-range, barebones, 2-door SUV. There may be a few people that appeals to, but it feels like a niche within a niche.
I share the opinion. I lived through the era of 2 door SUVs, and getting in and out was . . .not good.
I still hear some people talk about Bronco IIs with rose tinted glasses, including one former boss who rolled one. I'm sure there's gotta be a small percentage of people that are wanting one these days that Slate could potentially tap into the market of. To quote Arrested Development, "There are literally dozens of us!" I have a feeling the cargo topper came first, and then someone thought to put seats back there.

If the roll bar inside is the actual crash protection, there's nothing stopping Slate or another manufacturer from making us some wraparound rear windows like a II had!

You might say “Dark star crashes.” LOL

Fun having another Dead Head on the forum. I hope you find the right vehicle for you. I had HIGH hopes for the electric VW bus, but that didn’t pan out so well.
I didn't know it had failed, but good riddance if it has. I don't want ANY VW bus to EVER clog the road again. Hated them then, hate them now.

As for the "Its too expensive" crowd - go buy something else. Myself, I'd be willing to pay more to be able to skip the crap that ALL N. American vehicles are saddled with.

I could not use the internet without my ad blockers. Pages that require them, I don't bother with. Or I check for an archived page. I block YouTube ads too, on my PC. If a PiHole can do that for Android TV, I'll be checking it out.

I never see ads anywhere. Like you, the once in a while I get a roadblock because of my ad blocker and/or PiHole, I just go elsewhere. That is but one reason I left the Apple and Microsoft ecospheres behind and returned to Linux after a 25 year hiatus. Forcing ads on me is the fastest way I can think of to lose my business - and instantly at that.
