Why i choose Slate.?
What i like?

1.- is a small truck. I like trucks almost any size. But the versatility is always a big point for me. An a truck with the frunk is a plus. Big plus.!!
2.- Electric Cars. Always. Even before Leaf or teslas .. I love the EV concept and was my dream live in an era with electric cars
3.- simplicity.!! This part is very important.
I did mechanic in 80s and 90s. All those cars, even the most complex were very simple. Now besides the technology for passenger and security. The cars are too sophisticated. Easily pass from a nice car to a piece of junk. All the sensors, computers and chips for almost every function convert any dream in a nightmare.!! I work in a dealer .. and yes the bugs and problems with the electronics components in the new cars is the weak part. ( very weak )
4.- Do it yourself. Yes yes and yes.!!! The simplicity let me be happy. Customization and do almost anything in my car is priceless.!!!! Thanks for that.!!!

What I like about the Slate Truck is that it’s small, fully electric, and built for creativity. I love that I can customize and completely reinvent whenever the mood strikes. Whether it’s a new color, new panels, or an entirely new vibe, the Slate can evolve. And if I want to sell it, the new owner can make it their own.

Totally agree! Thanks for posting. I hope Slate stays strong and has a bright future. I think many of us feel like you do.

DIY is what I like. I had a CD player go bad in my Silverado and installed a touchscreen radio that had to have an interface module to make it work with my truck. It was difficult to use and the radio stopped working. I thought I would buy a used OEM. That’s a joke! It was locked to th original truck VIN. I tried watching YouTube videos to unlock it but I failed. So I bought a new Kenwood stereo and an install kit. That’s when I found out about the interface module. I took it off the fancy touch screen and figured out how to make it work with my truck. What should have been a couple hours ended up being a couple days getting the job done. To much hassle and definitely GM planed it that way. Either take to a dealer or planned obsolescence.

Every one of these four points speaks directly to me and my hope and dreams for Slate Truck ownership!

I read a daily GM auto digest, and nearly every day one of the newest models needs a fix for something! I don't want to pay for a new vehicle that has that has constant issues. I'm counting on the simplicity of the Slate Truck plus the team's laser focus on building one chassis right the first time will result in a truck as simple to own and maintain as the 1960 Chevy half ton surplus government work truck I drove to high school. It had roll up windows, no radio and an engine compartment with enough spare room (six cylinder) to climb into. I'm also counting on the Slate Truck's DIY focus to enable easy issue corrections (if there are any) and of course DIY add-ons to make my bare bones Slate Truck even a little better for me (e.g. interior rubber floor liner) after delivery. (For my high school truck, low budget DIY included front yard respray to Corvette blue, radio from junkyard, an analog gauge cluster, and chrome lug nuts instead of the dog dish hub caps for the black steel wheels - still makes me smile to think about it)

I have very mixed feelings about Slate. But keeping it positive, what I like is the mission of the company. Built in America. Sourced in America. Affordable minimalism. And the whole idea of a new generation of youth having an affordable car they can endlessly personalize.

To me the real success story of Slate, if there is one, is not the initial new sales. Thirty grand after taxes, delivery and fees is not really a teenager car. But pretty quickly after production, used Slates will start appearing on the used market. I'm taking a big leap and assuming there will be massive depreciation, as is typical for BEVs. So I hope kids will be able to buy a stripper used Slate for $15,000. Now that is something a financially strapped teen can afford. I see a used Slate as the ultimate high school and college car.

BTW, Slate team - if you're reading. I think you should do a college tour.

I was thinking the same thing about the Slate being a great first car for a teen or college bound kid. In fact I’m buying mine thinking in 6 or 7 years my now 10 year old grandson would be ready for a car and I could pass it along to him. I’m 77 years old so who knows how long I’ll be hanging around? He might get it sooner…or if I’m lucky he’ll have to wait a while. 😊 In any case he is one of the reasons I’m getting one. 👍

Well, still hoping to get my Slate for my 80th, so maybe also good as a last vehicle! But it would suit me to wear it out and have to replace with V-5.0

My son is 13 and my youngest daughter is 10. I love the idea of them only being able to take 1 passenger as per the law in texas for under 18 drivers (unlike my oldest who for sure breaks that law on a regular basis).

For myself I want a truck that doesnt take up so much room in the garage and I can leave my 1up rack on it full time and still have it fit in the garage.

I never wash my car and my favorite color is the one that hides dirt the best.

I love the secure storage that the frunk offers.

I love the car being as simple as possible. Lately cars wont even stay on if the driver is not sitting in the drivers seat, even if I leave the key. Modern cars are constantly trying to be helpful but end up being annoying.

My perfect setup is a slate for daily driving and a gas van of some kind for road trips - but I want self driving for road trips.

What I like about the Slate truck was the initial sub $20K price and the absence of the tech that is too prevalent in today's modern vehicles. Due to the nature of EV fueling requirements, especially on road trips, some tech is just necessary as compared to ICEV. It seems Slate has a work around for it, which is refreshing.

The Slate's limited truck towing and hauling capabilities meet my anticipated use case, which is great; good enough but not overpaying for them. Let's hope the price stays south of $27K and the panels will be paintable as well as easily wrap'able.

Size and simplicity. I just bought a Frigidaire refrigerator that has a compressor, a plug, and a manual thermostat. I'm tired of over complicated things breaking. I can understand all this stuff, use it, and fix a lot of it, which is probably why I don't like seeing it in an appliance. A refrigerator with a touch screen a French door with water and ice coming out the door is always going to be a problem in a few years. All I would think about was when it was going to break rather than enjoy the features. I'm reading this while listening to an autoline podcast about putting AI into cars... Most of it sounds like a solution for a problem we didn't know we had. I just want to drive it, control it, and not have it turned into a reliability, upsell subscription nightmare. I really just miss having manual climate controls because every Auto system I use doesn't do what I want it to do and then I have to spend time figuring out how to make it do what I want it to do.
