I would like a Turbo button, just like on computers in the 80s/90s.

'21 Kia Seltos 2.0 AWD
You guys have all been spoiled. The fastest car I ever owned was a 2012 Kia Soul with the good AT6 and 2.0 with 164hp and 148ft-lbs. That thing would do 0-60 in under 8 seconds. I'm sure the 2800-pound cub weight helped. Above 70 or so, aerodynamics took over and acceleration slowed considerably.

That car had in interesting quirk. I'd let off the accelerator at 60-65 mph, count to two, then floor it. The car produced a white smoke screen that was truly glorious. It only lasted a few seconds, but would blind anyone a hunded feet behind. The check engine light would flash for a few seconds to let me know I was was in James Bond mode - as if the whiteout in my rearview wasn't enough. The car didn't stumble or suffer decreased performance during the event. I could do the trick only once per drive.

My Kia did this even when new. It didn't burn much oil (until after 150,000 miles, anyway), and I never lost coolant. So I never learned what was at play. I do know some other Kia owners have reported it - but only with the 164hp 2.0 like mine.

So, maybe not a button. Maybe a rotary knob. the more you turn it, the faster the truck will accelerate.
"... And this is the button/knob you can use to prevent yourself from accessing all of the power you've paid for."

Or maybe a lever... And maybe it could even be foot operated and placed just to the right of the brake pedal.

Put it towards the center console and that'd be loads of fun to mess with your friends. Wait till they're distracted and turn their power knob down! A new twist on turning on their heated seats in the summer.

I don't think you understand the request.

Sure thing.

Currently, the Slate has a 0-60 of 8 seconds. No matter how hard you press that lever to the right of the brake pedal, that's all you're going to get. Since nothing is free, getting additional acceleration means that you're going to get less range if you use that acceleration. This applies to ICEVs as well.

I'd like to be able to select the level of acceleration I *can* get. If I want more range, I set the acceleration level lower. If I want more acceleration, I have to accept lesser range. I'd love to get that 0-60 down to about 6 seconds. Then I can use that lever to the right of the brake pedal in a manner that suits the road and traffic conditions at the time.

Make sense?

8 seconds seems like a rocket compared to my 90's Ranger. The box van I drive at work, couldn't pull that off even when it's empty.

Not even a little bit.

The Slate motor is rated to reliably produce up to 150kw, using all of which gets you a supposed 8 second 0-60 time. Range has nothing to do with this limitation.

If you reliably want a 2 second quicker 0-60 time, you simply need a more powerful (and more expensive) motor. It's not like slate is already buying a motor that is reliably rated to produce 200kw then dialing it back to 150kw to 'increase the range'. That is what you're functionally asking for, but that's not actually how it works.

If you have a 200kw motor, driven the same below 150kw will get the same range entirely regardless of whether you keep it below that threshold with a gimmicky button/knob, or simply with self-control of your right foot.

I had a 2.6L Mercedes that could barely get to 60 in eight and a half seconds, and on some of the shorter on-ramps, I had some puckery moments when the end of the ramp was there, and the car wasn't up to the speed of traffic. I learned to flog the car hard.

I want my new Slate to be able comfortably to get to highway speed in a short time.

8 seconds seems fast enough. I'm in a Jeep Gladiator and stock they get somewhere around 7.5-8.5. I have 35s on mine, so I'm sure that I'm a bit slower. I've never been concerned about merging on the highway and it's way faster than my older Wranglers.

My old 1993 Ford Ranger with the 2.3L 4-cylinder (98 HP when new, maybe 80 after 245,000 miles) and its 5-speed manual could do 0-70 in 28 seconds. 0-60 was a good deal faster, but 70 was near the aerodynamic limit (unachievable on an uphill or in a headwind).

Cars that made under 100 horsepower used to be normal. A sports car would post 0-60 times, a family car (or certainly a truck) would not. They didn't send station wagons around the Nurbergring.

It's an onramp, not a drag race. 150 kW and 8 seconds to 60 is *fine*.

Ok, so 0-60 in 8 seconds, with linear acceleration, and and EV should be closer to linear than cars that have to shift, manual or automatic, would take 352 feet. That is 0.066 miles. How long are freeway ramps? I checked one near me, around 800 feet.
