Just for discussion, I know everyone wants to keep costs down: I have a question on license plates n sticker. Would you be willing to pay at time of ordering your Slate, a fee, let’s say $95 to have the license plates shipped to the Slate service center and when you pickup your Slate, plates are already installed on the vehicle, instead of getting temp tags and waiting 2 weeks for plates to show up in the mail.

license plates can be ordered in advance.
Why pay extra?
What is wrong
with temporary paper plates?

I thought this was going to be
a custom plate idea thread.
In Texas we have 7 digit plates.
Here is my choice.

Not all states issue temporary paper registration "plates".
In my state, you must have the metal plates (front and rear) on the vehicle before it leaves the dealer's lot.
The gas stations and repair shops that issue the state's safety inspection sticker are also monitored by Registry of Motor Vehicles via CCTV.

I've not bought a vehicle using the direct to consumer method, so I don't know how it works in my state regarding tags. But I do know as long as you have paperwork of the sale with a VIN, you can get tags at the DMV. I would not pay extra.

Arizona does not give metal plates or tabs/sticker at the DMV.

No, I wouldn't pay extra for that. I'll just wait to get the plates. That's not worth any money at all to me. It's not an inconvenience in my eyes.

Texas just passed a law getting rid of paper temporary plates, vehicles leave the dealer/are delivered with plates. Not sure what Arizona's rules are.

Suspect that is really dictated by the State. I know here, finalize everything, get Temp plates and DMV ships plates to the dealer in about 3 weeks.
that could prove interesting given the location of Slate pickup. Could involve a Temp in that location and reregister/Title where you live?

In 1968, I bought a car while in Kansas during my summer break from Texas A&M. Had Texas license plates shipped to me and after I entered Texas on my way back for the fall semester, got pulled over and ticketed for having no Texas inspection sticker.

Had I left the Kansas plates on, I would have had 30 days to get the vehicle registered and inspected in Texas.

I just looked at custom plate options in Washington State, and this is one of the options. Scary!

Apparently JP Patches was a local children's show from '58 - '81, and the plates benefit Seattle Children's Hospital. So, a good cause, but still... 😂

In 1974, I bought a used Saab Sonett,
an aerodynamic sports car.

The silhouette and orange color
bore a striking resemblance
to the new Datsun 240Z.

At that time there was a popular commercial
for 7-Up, the uncola.
So I got a custom license plate,
THE UNZ.

People would ask me, what is an "unz".

My stories are so old,
I think they are past
the statute of limitations.
