This thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/electriccars/s/HJvSencCBA has just got my blood boiling. I am not oblivious to the perception or the shortcomings that ppl have with the truck. It’s the obvious bullshit that gets to me. I’d rather vent here than try to speak truth to the naysayers over there.

edit: I may have stoked a small fire with a comment over there. I did say I would stop defending slate. I did not say I couldn’t spread FUD on Ford.

Just got to stay out of the comments almost everywhere. Someone posts dashcam video of someone going through a green light and getting T-boned and people are going to say it was the green light car's fault for not stopping and checking no one was coming. It's all for getting interaction.

It’s amazing how many posts are obvious click bait.

I shouldn't have read it. Irked me too. Definitely some brigading going on. And Ford's FUD has worked. Good on you for shipping it back at em. One user, maybe you, kept having to remind people we don't know shit about the Fathom. People are projecting a lot of details on a vehicle that has only been seen as a rolling platform with possible cardboard barnacles attached, covered in blankets and camo.

That was not me, I only added in the fact that Ford has been known to abandon products.

Oh yeah, saw that.

"But At lEaST fOrD wILl StIll BE aRoUNd" Yeah, let me tell you about abandonment. It is easier for me to go to the Toyota dealer to get parts for my Pontiac Vibe, than it is to go to the GMC/Buick dealer as GM instructed me to do. I can get common parts from yota in 1 minute. Takes GMC a week to order it.

That might have been me, I was at least one person who was. Honestly, when I made the post I wasn’t expecting that very few addressed the titled discussion but I’m also not surprised.

All based on that "PeOpLe DeMaNd CoNnEcTiViTy" argument. Let alone not realizing they already have what is essentially a radio in their pocket, and options for how good the sound is.

Right, it was you! I felt like you were the little boy with his finger in the crack in the levee, trying to hold back the brigaders. Your mistake was opening a thread with a small premise that takes a tiny bit of brain power, like actually consider the few options you suggested should be base. Didn't matter. They see "Slate" and turn on the brigade-bots.

'haters gona hate’

Try not to be concerned with what everyone else will think on this truck. Either it will be too small, or limited on range, or only 2 wheel drive, or too sparse, etc. The goal is for you to enjoy the truck and make it yours.
I could not have said it better myself!

I've been actively pulling myself from conversations like that Reddit thread. When people are that emotionally negative about something, you're not going to convince them, just like you won't convince the hardcore "must have power windows" crowd. Or the "must have built in navigation" crowd.

Asking the "why" doesn't ever generate an answer to discuss.

It's a frigging piece of metal. When did people get so emotionally fragile about a car?
When it's $25k-$60k, people sit on their opinions pretty aggressively. The cost of cars have gone up so much that it's made the emotional side even more front-and-center. I remember when it didn't really matter what car, and people talked about what they liked to drive instead.

Uh, Scooter. I hate to tell you this, but it happened before you (probably) were born.

All you have to do is look up the popular song from 1955 called "Hot Rod Lincoln". This was a hit in subsequent decades too. This is only one of many songs that are "fragile about a car." The Beach Boys had a few. Jan and Dean. And many others.

This is America. Cars are part of our culture. I hope it never stops.
