Slate shared this story on instagram from @chefbae (whom I am unfamiliar with). In it, she mentions the frunk by claiming “it is one giant refrigerator”. Even when a commenter says “refrigerator frunk is a game changer”, she replies “yes it is”. Am I wrong by saying Slate did not say that this was a feature of the frunk?

Slate:
“To clarify: while the frunk isn’t a built-in refrigerator, it is plastic-lined and includes a drain plug, so you could fill it with ice and use it as a cooler if you wanted to. Perfect for tailgates, camping trips, or just keeping your drinks cold on the go.”

Not anything I have heard or read. Some folks just don’t get non-tech, simple.

If you look closely when she announces "it's one giant refrigerator", the frunk is full of groceries, but as far as I can make out, they appear to be things that don't actually require refrigeration (like Cheerios).

I think she is just using the term "giant refrigerator" in the sense of "a place that holds a lot of groceries" -- but not in the sense of "a cold place that holds a lot of groceries".

So it might have been more technically accurate to say "it is one giant pantry". But let's not set overly high expectations for the technical accuracy of Instagram influencers.

It’s implied it can be used as a ice box because of the drain hole it had from what I have gathered

Yes. From Slate:

That would need to be a short camping trip. Unless it's well insulated, which I doubt.

There's a reason experienced campers buy those pricey rotomolded coolers.

We actually buy fancy dual power fridges that can run off a power station or vehicle 12v power. In the winter, the frunk makes an excellent fridge. No ice or power required.

Correct.

Frunk is not well insulated and melts ice quickly.

My Mach E frunk can be loaded with drinks and ice, but will melt by the end of the day.
