And I've been wondering how Slate will support the early adopters in this big experiment.
FWIW I read a business book about how Lexus handled its first-year recalls and how the way they treated early adopters was crucial to their eventual success.

Edit: Must've been Malcolm Gladwell's Tipping Point

Interesting. The article spends a fair amount of time suggesting the Lexus recall was fabricated.

I can't see Slate doing something like that.

Let's hope not!

I have to confess I just read the first few paragraphs of the article. I remembered reading the book when it first came out. It turns out that was a quarter century ago! Dang, I just grew another gray hair...

Slate. Just. Got. Real.

Kidding aside, With all of the talk of Slate not making any production dates or production at all, this company is looking more and more legit.

When we have fantasies about Slate handholding early adopters, I suggest rethinking that. Unless the Series C capital raise is huge, they just won't have the money to give a gold plated experience to early adopters.

Heck, Mavericks were in the shop for multiple months at a time early on - no spare parts. And sometimes the fix took months to figure out. And that's with the huge resources of Ford.

If you're an early adopter, you gonna be super cool. You're also gonna be skating on the edge of disaster. And of course, the ultimate disaster is you buy your Slate and they go bottoms up a month later.

OTOH, if you're the first to get a Slate, there will likely be a short period where YouTubers will buy your Slate for a premium. So there's maybe some money to be made by the bold.

Just think of the value as a collector's item...

By offering you the opportunity to exchange your money for their car. Beyond that? Google your states lemon laws….

In the same vein of “if you want AWD, massaging seats and interior LED lighting, this truck isn’t for you”- if you expect a well integrated ongoing customer support experience, I fear this truck will disappoint. The D2C model is inherently “low touch” with the support, which is how companies save money (and hopefully pass some savings onto the consumer). Slate is taking this approach head on with their outsourced “support centers”.

Then we'll rename the company, "Skate". :CWL:
