Thanks for rereading the FAQs and for catching that detail, we really appreciate how closely you're following along!
You're right that our initial launch will focus on deliveries within the continental U.S., and while Hawaii isn’t part of that territory, we know there's a lot of interest from customers like you. At this time, we haven’t confirmed logistics for shipping directly to Hawaii, but purchasing with delivery to a California port is something we’re actively exploring as a possible workaround.
We’ll continue to share updates as we expand our delivery capabilities, and you won’t need to physically live in the continental U.S. to place a reservation, though you may need to arrange transportation from one of our supported delivery points.

That $5k bill was probably the sales tax and registration on the vehicle.Sheesh, I was only joking about Texas having an EV fine!![]()
I have purchased 3 EVs in Texas. None of them required any ridiculous fees.They claimed it was going to be $20k after the $7,500 FEDERAL tax credit(Biden gov rule), but that depends on your tax status. If you're poor or don't pay much federal taxes, then you wouldn't qualify anyway.
State EV incentives are different and may be additional +/-. Colorado has an additional $2 or 3k, I hear.
In Texas, you get a letter from the state asking you for road taxes on your EV, as you won't be paying for gas to keep our lovely roadwork funded for all eternity. I had a friend who got a $5k bill from the state of Texas after buying a new Model 3, and they withheld her permanent plates until she came up with the cash.
So if there is no Federal tax credit, I could be paying the full $27,500 +5k road tax + sales tax and financing, and it is up there with a real ICE mini truck in pricing in the mid to high 30s like a Maverick or Santa Cruz. That was Doug DeMuro's point.
Does anyone on here own an EV from new in Texas and can confirm this?
Someone should make a list of State EV road taxes vs. EV incentives and see if there is any savings. We can't trust this current gov to honor any EV credits, especially 2 years out.
Road tax is usually collected by states at the pump.is there a road tax for gas though as well or how does the state take a cut from the gas company’s idk how all that works
That can't be right. Texas doesn't have a road tax for new ev's. Sales tax yes. Registrations are 400 for initial plates and 200 there after. Im sure the 5k was for sales tax of a delivered car. You still pay sales tax at a dealership, but it's included the the walk out price. So if Slate delivers your truck. Expect to pay the sales tax when registering it. So at 35k. You would think Trump would want to help the reindustialization of America.we will have to see but my guess is they planned it with out the incentive in mind and because it’s still in effect the marketing team ran with it

Did anyone expect Slate to say anything different?I just got a reply asking about the federal incentives and this is slate auto’s response I feel at ease a bit and I think the price they are referring to is the $25,000 I believe so still a good deal in my eyes then again I did customize mine all out so XD we will see.

The tax credit is Federal not a State incentive. I live in Arkansas, they charge you an extra $50 to register a gas hybrid, $100 to register a plug in hybrid and $200 for an EV. Keep in mind this is at first registration and at renewal. Arkansas says they did this to make up for lost revenue dues to less gas tax being paid. It makes my blood boil and it screams GOVERNEMENT IS A BUSINESS AND YOU ARE THE PRODUCT!Thanks to this thread I just learned that Hawaii has no tax incentive for EVs and in fact has an extra $50 charge for registration above and beyond the normal registration. So effectively Hawaii is anti-EV, who knew?
