I was initially thinking of going for the SUV or Fastback kit option, but now may consider buying the pickup configuration and adding the kit later (either DIY or by RepairPal installation which is what I assume they'll offer?)

Is there any indication or speculation on what the difference in total cost might be in terms of 1) Ordering it pre-installed, vs. 2) Having it installed after purchase vs. 3) installing it yourself after purchase?

We know the pre-installed pricing. What is known or imagined about the post-install costs?

I searched around on the forum but am not seeing this topic anywhere. Thoughts?

Install costs should be just the labor rate of the shop performing the installation, so that could vary shop to shop. As for having it pre installed, last I heard all of that is not being done at the factory. It'll be done by a repair pal shop and maybe if you're lucky it'll be cheaper?

It would be helpful if Slate would give us the kit prices, and maybe a shipping estimate (it's a large box!). Then we could at least figure out what it cost to DIY.

I'm guessing we'll have a better idea before the Q2 (my) order deadline - hopefully.

My assumption is that since they are doing so many of them, the pre-install kit prices should be lower than post-install labor rates...the folks doing 100's of the things will be faster and probably doing better quality work than the repairpal or other outfit that is local and may have done one or maybe none.

I guess this is just a classic wait-and see situation. Was just wondering if anyone had any insider info or other high-confidence indications one way or another. Thanks for the responses.

They better have it before Q1 for the first wave.

Speaking of which.... Any idea when actual assembly line production will start?

In a video the assembly plant engineer (or whatever his title is) said the factory ordered SUVs would be done at the factory, but no other accessories.

If it possible that will change? Did he misspeak? Are we all going crazy with all the speculation? 😅

I hope they open the accessory ordering up before we get to order our trucks so I can get some things shipped here before I get my truck and install them on arrival.
I'm hoping that they will confirm that any accessories will be shipped with the truck or possibly installed (depending on price) when you take delivery. Either way I just want that SWEET folding tonneau cover, center console, and the speaker mount.

Alright I lied! I also want the pickup roof rack, the frunk bag holders and the door pockets... And the locking tailgate.
