I contacted an agent at Slate today. The engineers are currently evaluating all the components needed for the the open air kit to work with the fastback. There will be updates soon from what I was told.

Doesn’t the configurator say you have to get the square back SUV kit to order the Open air kit? I kind of feel like the only thing in the open air kit is pieces that finish off the back of the cab and the tops of the quarter panels that are exposed when you remove the SUV top. If that is the case I would think the open air kit would not matter if it was a square back or fastback. Unless the fastback is attached differently.

Lots of questions and guesses here. Some contradictory, or at least confusing, information from Slate. The Maker always shows the roll-bar and seats in both square-back and fastback SUV builds. The Open-Air Kit (meaning the roll-bar and seats sans top as shown in the Slate photos and Maker builds), could be practical with a soft canvas top like so many Wranglers and Broncos. But it is not listed as available without the square-back hard-top, which makes no sense, unless the square-back hard top doesn't come with the seats and roll-bar included, which makes even less sense! The SUV hard-tops might (or might not) be usable without the roll-bar support. We are all just guessing, because Slate has nor provided clear consistent answers to these questions.

Never mind the Cargo Kit, which never was in the Maker and has now disappeared from the Fleet web page!

Yep. Again, contradictory, or at least confusing, info from Slate.

I realize this not a production vehicle yet, but if they don't make up their minds soon about some basic stuff, it never will be.

Some of us have put down $300 non-refundable on this, and the only model / package / price we are sure about is the base truck.

It's beginning to sound like like the old jokes about low MSRP model car that doesn't actually exist... you know, the one that doesn't come with wheels or seats, those are extra cost options!

FWIW, it's still linked from the FAQs (under "How many body styles are there?")
Yes, indeed. Not dead yet.

Hah hah! Then store unused parts on the roof rack of your Suburban.

Info i received today

Hi David,

Thanks for your message. We've updated the website with pricing. Yes, Slate will have an option to add a “Cargo Kit” as an integrated squareback topper that attaches similarly to the SUV kit. It will include a “Bulkhead divider” between the front seats and cargo area.

Look for more details to be added online in the coming weeks - stay tuned: Not sure where to start? Start here.

Thanks for reaching out - let us know if you need anything else - we're happy to help!

Best,
YOLANDA

Wow! Excellent news. I don't see any mention of whether the Cargo Kit top will have windows or not or maybe a choice of either. Maybe it does not look like the one they had pictured and pulled. ???

We'll find out in the "coming weeks," which could mean 20 weeks. :)

Oh, right. You just had to be realistic.

On the other hand, if the Slate agent is right, that means you can pop a hardtop onto the bed without a roll-cage. Yea!

I am still thinking the "Open air kit" may not be so much of a kit as "get an suv kit, and stop at step 10."
I have been mentally moving to the SUV “kit” after I order the base truck…to ensure all 3 options are available. Hopefully not a huge conversion process to and from SUV.
