That would work too.Virginia requires a dongle connected to the OBDII port.
In Texas, the state plus federal gas taxes are about 42 cents, if I remember correctly .How would that compare and workout as it relates to the gas taxes in TX?
I'd rather pay extra not to have the state install a tracking device in my car. Yeah, I know, cell phone... blah, blah, blah. That would work too.
It would only track the miles you drive, not where you are.I'd rather pay extra not to have the state install a tracking device in my car. Yeah, I know, cell phone... blah, blah, blah.
If I knew that a road usage fee was only being used for road and bridge maintenance, I'd be happy to pay it...especially if it was tax deductible and I knew that everyone else who drives legally in the state of Washington also pays it. One revenue source that will be lost is people from out of state using Washington roads and buying Washington gas. Policing this could have some logistical challenges, but I don't think privacy concerns should be one of them. We already have cameras that track usage of certain highway lanes. It would only track the miles you drive, not where you are.
There are only two ICE brands I would buy: 1) Toyota and 2) Honda. Both still build solid cars/engines but have added a tremendous amount of complexity by embracing hybrid driveline tech. The days of simple, naturally aspirated engines are long gone…for purchasing new. I feel confident my FJ with proper maintenance can go forever. All that said, a simple low cost EV is very attractive to me as a daily. I’m tired of spending a fortune on gas just to get around town and the lower maintenance required is a huge plus. I can make good use of the Slate both as pickup and cargo van.I have a maverick. Even if the slate cost 30K I'll still buy it because I'll never have to repair any of the 2200 moving parts in an ice drivetrain. I've had a string of bad luck in gas cars lately. 2017 Colorado with a rear diff that kept eating bearings, Scion engine with low tension rings that started burning oil like crazy at 90K. I could go on, but I'm never buying Ice again.
