Thinking of not ordering any accessories.

The only thing I really want is someplace to rest my right elbow.
Buuuuut.... I really don't even want the factory console design. I really want something mounted to the bulkhead (is that the right term?) that can flip up and out of the way. In other words, a hinged or pivoting armreset.

As to how I can occomplish this, to make it feel sturdy and not look utterly ghetto, I have no idea. If there were 2 rows of T-rail back there, I could convince myself it'd be easy... but it doesn't. So I'm really looking forward to digging into that bad boy to see what's possible. I foresee prowling a scrapyard eventually to get ideas based around existing flip down armrests....

I’m a Q2 delivery and this is the first thing I plan on figuring out. I’m going to post engineering drawings here when I’m done.

I think bulkhead refers to floor-to-ceiling. Slate calls the lower part of the pickup's bulkhead (the front wall of the bed) the partition. They refer to the upper part as the rear glass.

That would imply with the cargo kit, the back glass is moved to the shell and something goes where the glass is, i.e. the headache rack.

They could also ship a solid replacement for the back glass, for the full "free candy" effect.

At first I was under the impression that if it was ordered at the same time as the truck, some of the accessories would be installed, but then I was thinking "ok, they'll just all be in the cab or bed of the truck when it shows up on the trailer."
But now another couple hundred on shipping charges for accessories that are coming from the same place as the truck?
What's the point then? I guess to roll out into the loan but that's not a guarantee it'll be on the same bill. I need this as a work truck. Can't imagine the ladder racks and tonneau cover being cheap to ship.

Some accessories in the maker are from third-party vendors. Those will definitely not come from the same place as the truck.

In my business I order stuff all the time through venders and have to pay the shipping charges to a business address... I think even accessories that are Slate-branded won't necessarily be manufactured by Slate themselves and they could be made practically anywhere.

Regarding shipping to residential, Slate's CEO was Vice President of Amazon Marketplace for nine years during during Amazon Marketplace's meteoric expansion, so I'm gonna say logistics of that nature are right in his wheelhouse.

The more I think about it I may just order the blank slate. Since everything has to be installed by the user, it may be better to wait and see what is good and maybe not so good. Only exception may be the wrap. Anyone else think like this?

I think a lot of people are thinking like this.

That being said, several of the things can be installed NOT by the user before delivery if configured up front. For example, I'm pretty sure they said SUV/fastback/open air kits will be installed at the end of the assembly line. And will offer pre-delivery installation of wraps etc.

I have a few items saved in the maker, but at this point about 99% certain I will be getting a Blank Slate. Of course cost of shipping is a factor, but also the install of the various accessories, like where. As I must ship my Slate from the San Diego port, it cannot contain anything not installed.
Looks like I will get to enjoy the Blank’ Slate for a bit and watch both Slate and 3rd party offerings. Maybe I’ll get to share an SUV kit with someone wanting just the open air parts.

All these questions I expect to be answered "soon", which probably means around Thanksgiving. That's my best guess.

Like our favorite contributor the Arizona Fox mentions, Faricy should be on this. I'm hoping that Faricy was hired not just to be CEO, but also build a team to work these details. Slate is running really lean and they had great conceptual ideas early on, but it was clearly a lot of work for Barman to lead while also still getting the dang vehicles through all the internal and external validation that still is not complete.
