If there isn't a constant power source already there, it's easy to add. Typical car audio stuff.

For what it's worth, the stereo setup I put in my spark is basically a powered sub with a built in 4 channel amp and a remote control box that has a volume knob and a bluetooth connection. It's all wired to switched 12v, and it has no issue with losing settings.

Let's see a product URL - this sounds like an interesting option for audio.

Unfortunately it's discontinued. I got one on ebay not long after crutchfield ran out. I haven't found another packaged like this, which is a shame because it's perfect for adding a stereo to something that doesn't have one. In the Spark, I did it so I could bypass the factory headunit while leaving it in place.

I was excited when I found this new from Alpine, and then I saw then price, lol.

I thought it had speaker outputs, but I saw only RCA inputs in the pictures. Unless I'm missing something?

The speaker outs are part of the big 26 pin connector

Wow, but then not sure sure I’ve ever seen Alpine in a budget mode.
1700 is crazy for that, even for Alpine.
They were always on the expensive end of the "reasonable" audio equipment (more than pioneer, sony, etc, but less than the more exotic stuff). I used to love their stuff, but their headunits seem to struggle with bluetooth glitches more and more. Their only single din receiver (UTE-73BT, or something like that) is like a decade old design. It's what's in my wife's car, and the bluetooth connects when it feels like it. This isn't an issue with the PWD-X5 in my spark, but it made me try different brands when I was doing the stereo in the civic I've been driving.

Even if Slate were to use the pint-sized 12V 35AH battery that many EV use, like the Mach E, a radio should not consume but a few milliamps for memory and such a small automotive battery should last months.
It shouldn't require much power, I'd think. Maybe not any.

A computer motherboard holds settings and keeps time using a small 3V lithium cell (CR2032). They last for years.

I checked Crutchfield to see if any aftermarket radios do not need 12V for memory and clock, but could not find any info. Next time I'm in C-ville I'll stop in and ask. Worth a check.

Maybe we just rig up a small 12V battery source under the dash (not the Slate LV battery).

It seems a bit odd they wouldn't add 'constant' 12V circuits to the truck as there are other accessories other than radios that would benefit from them, especially if they're touting these as fully customizable. Like others have said, it's not outside the realm of impossibility to add a constant 12V, it just seems strange they wouldn't have that as an option from the start. What if some overlander type wants to run a tire inflator with the truck turned off?

The aftermarket double-dins that I've installed have weird things stored with constant power, but it'd still be annoying to lose the clock and presets on the other radios that I have if I choose to install them.

So that begs the question, is there a clock readout on the gauge cluster?

The claim of "no constant power provided" was presumably referring to the accessory power outlets in the area where you would mount a traditional head unit. The truck has a 12v battery.
