Wrap Samples Without Shipping Cost

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned in any of the many threads about the wraps/decals and guessing at the true colors, so forgive me if this is redundant.
Amazon has a seller that has samples of over 120 Avery Dennison colors, and many 3M colors. $1.49 per each color sample cost and free shipping of about a week for Prime members.

Of course the tricky part is cross-referencing the manufacturer color name to Slate's unique renaming of Avery and 3M colors, but I've been able to make strong guesses at colors I'm interested in seeing in real life.
I've ordered 4 Avery samples so far.

Put a Swatch Packs page on the website where you can order swatch packs of various sizes (quantities of swatches). Choose the quantity and whichever colors you want to see.​

I think a lot of customers who might not otherwise get a wrap would opt to get one if they could see swatches.​

The main issue is we don't know who Slate is getting wraps from. It may be Avery or 3M, but it may not be finalized yet. That is my current theory on it, and why we haven't seen some better representation of actual colors. Swatches would be good, but we don't even have photos or video of them, just renders that are inconsistent.

Spent a little money back when the wrap names had 1:1 matches to 3M's line. Will wait until things settle before I do that again, rather than guessing.

Yes. Patience. I just went back and checked the Slate factory update YouTube video. It was done 6 months ago and all they had was a new floor plus some robots (still in their wrappers).
We're all so anxious for our Slates we tend to forget the size of the hill they're climbing.
Not only are they building a new plant with all new assembly equipment they're also hiring and training an all-new workforce. At least when an existing manufacturer re-tools for a new model they have a trained workforce in place.
Frankly, I'm (pleasantly) surprised they've come so far. They seem to be hitting all their promised milestones.
Ford can only dream of this disciplined a launch execution.

Yea, every now and then I get bit, but try, really try to maintain perspective. Visiting Maker every day, OK, OK, a couple times a day probably doesn’t help as what I’m looking for still isn’t there, yet.

Today I received an Email from Slate regarding wraps...and suggesting,I should choose my wrap.

They said, "A Slate wrap starts around $500 for the wrap itself and $500 for professional installation."

This ^^^ is a direct quote from the email. For some, not news. What caught my eye was the $500 quote for professional installation. I believe that this has been the expected price but I had not seen it before.

Note, it isn't "around $500" like the cost of the wrap. It also is not "starting at $500". Rather, it is very specific "...$500 for professional install." Anyone with even a little experience with the wrap community know as fact that $500 for labor to wrap a car is unobtanium at any reputable wrap shop.

I had not planned on a wrap by Slate but now I am. For two reasons: one, can't touch that installation price here; and two, if I do it DIY and mess up one or more panels, replacement wrap-panel could easily cost up to the full price of the kit.

Having Slate do the wrap at wrap plus $500 before delivery is a no-brainer.

Your interpretation could be correct too. But if it is around $500 for installation, then installation for at least one wrap kit should be $500-ish, while more than $500 for the more expensive wraps like the Crayola wraps.

When I go to the maker for wraps, the first full wrap pops up at $499.99. That's "around $500" in my book. Installation for that wrap should/could be $499.99 too...which is also "around $500". I'm good with that.

If you look at the job openings at Slate, one position is a guy that trains independent shops how to wrap.

Let’s not overlook that new wrap facility in Louisville KY that’s a key player in all of this. There haven’t been any updates but I suspect KY will be the hub for anything relating to wrap kits, swatches, technical issues, etc. When key functions like this become decentralized, companies tend to treat them as profit centers or “centers of excellence.” Slate owes us some updates on how this is coming along.

I'm wondering if we're never gonna see swatches and they're planning on having the colors in their "showrooms". Have only seen speculation whether they will have showrooms or not but hoping they follow Tesla's lead.

While I'm thinking wraps, I'm starting to to think a partial wrap (hood/top) would be the better option for longevity. That said, if the expected life span of the upper wrap is 3-5 years, would paint protection film (partial) also be a good investment? Modern PPF provides UV protection as well as bug/rock chip protection. And, the warranty is for up to 10yrs. So having the hood/roof wrap protected should mean 5-10years+ with the wrap looking new...I'm gonna talk to my PPF guy about this next week when I see him.

Back to partial versus full: I fear that normal day to day driving with dirt, sand, water, snow, slush etc., being kicked up on the sides of the truck by the tires and other cars, that the side panel wrap would not last more than a season or two. If that's the case, then PPF might be required else replace the wrap annually at the cost of the kit/kit panels plus installation if not DIY. That will add up quickly. But full PPF could easily be $4k-$6k. Sure, it will last 10years at least, but that still means the cost is $400-600/year.

Maybe I'm over thinking this.
