I never thought of the slate as a rear wheel drive only but your right. Would be a wonderful experience like driving in the Allegheny mountains of Pa. in the winter....chuckle..you learn fast how to control your car as she slides around. Great fun under the right conditions. Black ice to me is the worse. Its like a sheet of oiled glass and you have absolute no control....scary. When i was building hospitals in Nevada and crossing the Sierra nevada mountains if i left early i would hit lots of the stuff so learned to wait untill the sun had been up for a bit then cross and when i did I would always pass several vehicles off theroad in snow banks or worse. People just drive to fast in general for safety

Black ice is treacherous whether you have RWD or AWD. Maybe less so with RWD since without AWD you won’t have a false sense of security.

Yes, I know. Fell off a suburban NJ road on black ice in a FWD chrysler Sebring convertible.
And yes, it was cold, roof was UP, heat was ON, defogger at MAX.
This is one of the stories that encouraged me to move from NJ to FL.

Took a week to fix it, then another 5 weeks to get the "correct" wheel trims.
I asked to take it back, have them mail me the trims, but no, got to be done by the shop.
So, in the end, a $1500 repair, with $100 parts, cost over $6k in "storage charges"

This is just one of the reasons for high insurance premiums,
the ins co would love to do it, but policy says "no way!", so you pay.

But damnn! I liked that car a lot, just wore the poor thing out at 200k+ miles.

Insurance companies don't care, the higher the cost of repairs the more they can charge for premiums....numbers racket

Since it’s reservations holders only, Slate could make the test drive an after hours private event at a baseball stadium parking field, for example. BMW has previously done this at Citi Field. Without any of the hoopla that would inevitably happen at a larger venue like SLC or Detroit (still on hold).

Boy, it's been very hard to hold out on a Slate as I've been eyeing a Jeep Gladiator as of late. Here's hoping the test drives turn out to be great!

I always felt Jeep made a big misstep when they went with the Gladiator instead of the J6 concept. a few years back The J6 was too cool for school.

Did the shop charge storage fees for time when they hadn't finished the work? That's not normally standard.

I've been charged storage fees when the city towed my truck after an accident. When i called them they said it would be safe till i could pick it up. The truck had a new engine with less than 200 miles on it. When i went to get it they charged me $900 for storage then said they had junked it a long time ago! What a racket...should have taken them to court but i was young and stupid
