Just read that the bill that had the EV credit cancelation did not make it through committee so hopefully that's a good sign
Also read on the Slate FB page that even if it was cancelled as long as you have reserved it prior to it being cancelled you would still be eligible

Should the Government be subsiding EV's to begin with?

Why is Government welfare needed to get people to buy EV's, can't they sell based on their own merits?

Hate to say it but I'm actually against this subsidy. Don't get me wrong, I'm gonna take it if I can get it but this is just more welfare we have to pay for. EV's should be able to sell on their own and if they can't, maybe they need to go away.

I wonder if Musk sees the irony in his DOGE role. If he's fighting to reduce wasteful spending he's going to have commit financial suicide because this is wasteful spending.

EV manufacturers can shave off much of this $7,500 cost but why would they? This way they reap the benefits of this welfare and you pay about the same as you would with a ICE vehicle after the discount.

If the subsidy goes away, Slate (and the other EV makers) will suddenly figure out a way to shave off thousands from the selling price. Watch.

Either way, I'm buying a Slate with or without it.

One glimmer of hope from a recent Reuters article:

“The proposal, which is set for a House Ways and Means Committee hearing on Tuesday, would repeal a $7,500 new-vehicle tax credit and a $4,000 used-vehicle credit on Dec. 31, although it would maintain the new-vehicle credit for an additional year for automakers that have not yet sold 200,000 EVs.”

Since I am new to the Forum and this is my first post to it.

What’s the best way to run this by someone in the Slate front office, as to where this proposal might intersect with our potential ordering timeframe?

I agree, I'm all in on this truck, and I use to think the $7,500 for an EV incentive was dumb but now that I'm jumping down the EV rabbit hole, if gas is so heavily subsidized then why shouldn't EV get a break?

Regarding EV incentives....

At one of the plants where I work, I once submitted a capital expenditure project for installing "free" EV chargers in the company parking lot. I thought this would get easily approved...since it promotes clean energy and is aligned with corporate green energy initiatives. The staff was highly divided on the project. While the EV owners loved the idea, the project got voted down by the "ICE" people.

I was advised the only way the project would be approved is if I also installed a couple of 87 and 93-octane gasoline pumps on site. :(

That’s incorrect information…I hope it wasn’t Slate that misinformed readers of the post.

I agree that government should not be subsidizing EV purchases, but I do believe they should subsidize EV charging stations as part of an infrastructure package.

I retired from a nuclear power plant and the only charger on site was reserved for the site VP. He had it installed in his parking spot for his company paid for Range Rover EV. Prick.

Hope it gets voted down.

Especially here in So Cal where gas prices are going up over the $6/gallon mark.

One reason I got the Ford Lightning and Mach E was for the tax credits......
AND Valero is closing down a California refinery within a couple years

I should have been more thorough….the incorrect information I’m referring to is that somebody said the EV tax credit would still be available to buyers of an EV as long as they reserved a purchase before the EV tax credit is discontinued.
I think that is applicable to the Commercial tax credit for company orders. If they had their order in before the credit expired, the credit would be valid, although the delivery will happen sometime later. Vice a personal EV purchase which happens at time of purchase (more or less).

This is what I found interesting in the recent Reuters article regarding an extension of the credit for automakers that have not yet sold 200,00 EV’s.

Would be appreciated if Slate’s front office could provide us all with some clarity as to how this legislation is tracking from their perspective.

I’m pretty sure Musk doesn’t do anything that isn’t good for Musk.

I would be pissed if the EV tax credit is maintained for the 200,000 unit figure but I get pushed back in line by Slate offering to let people jump ahead in line by investing (risking) more money.

In addition to the repeal of the $7500 credit is a provision to charge an ANNUAL $250 registration fee for EVs. So that's a fun bonus middle finger to the entire industry.
