In addition to the favorable price leak, we have also had favorable leaks on battery chemistry, tow capacity and payload. What other surprises are coming? Perhaps range or battery size?

I know a lot of people don’t view the motor change down to 135 kW/181 HP as favorable, but for me, if it makes it more efficient, than I am all for it. It has more torque and HP than my trusty 2006 Ranger with 2.3L did.

Oh BS. The legacy manufacturers make full-size and mid-sized pickup trucks in several configurations. Ford makes two different pickup truck platforms small and mid-sized to cater to Harry Homeowner. Toyota and Nissan have extended-cab 2-doors with 6-foot beds for under $35K.

Just checked on F-150 inventory. I can right now go to my local Ford dealer and buy a white, single-cab, 8' bed, 4x2 F-150 XL for $39,499. Inexpensive, basic truck.
$40k for a 2wd XL is inexpensive?

How many dachshunds are included in the $24,950 price? Someone start a poll.

I toss in my two pennies.

The Slate, as a concept, answered several questions for me right off. I want something simple. I don't want to have trim packages that install 9 things to get the 2 things I wanted out of that package. I HATE the dealer "experience" and will do everything I can to avoid it. I want a small truck, like the ones you could get in the 80s. I don't need 4 doors, and don't want 4 doors. What? You say it's an EV that has 4 times the range of my daily commute in the base package? Cool, that sounds good. I see it comes in grey - my favorite vehicle color.

I was willing to drop $27.5k on that rig. Now I find out that I just saved $2500 - that's nice, maybe I'll put that toward the larger battery.

No, I don't want an ICEV. No, I don't want a sedan. I want a cheap, small pickup that I can drive back and forth to work in, and maybe use to go to the garden center or the recycling facility. Since there are chargers at work, it sounds like I get to drive back and forth for almost nothing.

Oh, and on the weekend take my MTB to the trailhead, or my paddleboard to the lake. Maybe even take my girlfriend* along.

*Shhhh, don't tell my wife.

Yes! Reminds me of the great Henny Youngman…

I’ve been with the same woman for thirty two years… just don’t tell my wife.

I guess since the $7,500 EV credit is no longer available. I will at least take advantage of the tax deduction up to $10k per year on interest and stretch it out to a low payment. When researching I found it was going to be the standard 150-mile range battery. UGH!! I was seriously hoping for the extended range battery at this price point. or cheaper. But I still want to buy it, but am now on the fence for the first time since I paid the $50+$250 to be early in line.

If you purchase a brand-new, U.S.-assembled EV using an auto loan, you can take advantage of the new OBBBA Car Loan Interest Deduction. This lets you deduct up to $10,000 in loan interest from your taxable income every year through 2028. To get the full deduction, your modified adjusted gross income must be under $100,000 (single) or $200,000 (joint).

The $24,950 price and the standard 150-mile battery details come from a recent website leak on Slate Auto's official pre-order page.
The company accidentally posted the price and updated specs early. Automotive journalists and users on the Slate Forums caught the details before they were quickly taken down.
  • The Slip-Up: A line of code on Slate's pre-order page read: "The Slate Truck has all the essentials for the CONFIDENTIAL price of $24,950 (reminder: we're all still under NDA and prohibited from sharing this)."
  • The Battery Specs: Media outlets like Ars Technica and The Autopian confirmed this leaked base price is for the standard-range version. This base model uses a 52.7 kWh battery pack built by SK On. It is rated for 150 miles of range.
  • Official Reveal Date: Slate Auto has not publicly confirmed the leak yet. They are still sticking to their official launch timeline. They plan to announce the official final numbers on June 24.
