My accessory tracker found a new accessory that's listed as Not For Sale .

Surf Break — Roof Rack Decal

• Type: Decal
• Price: Not listed
• Description: "A dash of personality for the outside of your Slate. Easy to add, easy to love."

I would assume this is a decal that runs across the front edge of the roof rack , adding a pop of color without wrapping the truck itself.
It makes me wonder if Slate is planning a whole line of roof rack decals in different designs and colors.

Two things:

1. I feel like I’m happy with all their accessory prices so far. I expected to be overly nickled and dimed since that’s what every other car company would do. They would also change you thousands to buy the trim containing it that has 20 other accessories you don’t even want.

2. they said they are going to open source their accessories. So my guess is you will be able to make them yourself cheaper. Have your scrapbooking aunt cut one out for you.

I just got a Bambu Lab H2S. I just ordered the cutter module so I can make my own decals.

I think they're getting out over their skis with excessive promotion of wraps and accessories.

If I didn't already know what the Slate was, and someone sent me to website to check it out, I think I'd pass.

I agree. But in fairness, I think Slate is thinking bigger.

Me, an engineer, just wants a tool. But Slate also sees a market for artistic thinkers. I don't think they are wrong. The last Beetle generation had a group of fans that loved to trick them out. Some just had the flowers in the cup holder. The slightly adventurous put eyelashes on the headlights. And then there were the full on art cars.

Slate sees an untapped market. We'll see how big it is.

Oh, and this forum is self-selected with a bias to car geeks. I don't think it proportionally represents the population of perspective buyers.

I think you guys seriously under-estimate the target market for this vehicle, and what younger buyers are likely to find most appealing about this vehicle.

There's a hundred threads here on towing capacity and charging capability and yada yada yada - when I'm guessing that a full 50% of the people that will buy this thing will consider all that secondary be more like "Ooooh cool - I can make it purple and green - I'm totally getting one".

You geezers are really gonna shit when the Anime, Manga, and Hello Kitty wraps start to show up.

Here's the thing: geezers grew up on forums. I'm not saying "you kids" don't visit forums, because obviously some do. But forums lean old. Younger demographics trend to other means of information gathering.

Forums also attract the analytical. The emotional or "heart" people pass information on short form visual social media where I expect to see the Anime wraps appear soon.

I think the issue with Anime, Manga and Hello Kitty wraps is going to be a copyright issue. If you go into a store with a bakery that does custom cake decoration, they have a sign up that they can't do copyrighted characters.
Something in the style of one of those things, or in the colors, no problem. Maybe a wrap in the colors from slate as a base then add decals from somewhere else you might see. If Slate sees enough demand, maybe the wrap facility in Kentucky arranges licensing, and the rights holder gets a fee from each wrap bought.

I mean - you're not wrong, but take a look at Temu or AliExpress and tell me how concerned China is with copyright law. I know that Slate would never offer an unlicensed product, but there are plenty of places that will, and independent installers that won't care about the source (and IMO most of the buyers I'm talking about in my post above aren't going to DIY wrap anything past a Stanley Quencher)

But, if you want a custom wrap for your Slate, that doesn't have that kind of issue, getting it through Slate will probably be the best option. You should be able to submit your artwork, logos, etc, and get a ready to wrap set cheaper than anything short of places like aliexpress.
