IDK if I would consider a basic radio "tech stuff"...
The problem is in the definition of "basic". I'm glad Slate is providing a double-DIN hole and staying out of the entertainment space. Every user can do what's best for them. You can DIY or have any mobile electronics shop install exactly what you need.

I'm well aware of Slate's position on being basic. I'm sayin that a radio has been standard for like 70 years. It's not new tech, and if anything it's becoming outdated tech. Trying to sell storage space at the expense of a radio seems a silly, and bad, sell.

I wouldn't, however the screens in modern cars are not basic radios.
I didn't say anything about a big, or any, screen.

I think the vast majority of people who watch that short know what the intended message is: The Slate FN doesn't have a tablet-like screen. Instead it has lots of storage in the dash instead.

Exactly zero people will be forced not to have a radio.
Can you imagine the uproar should Slate decide to include a very basic radio?

I think I saw how much space was taken up by integrated speakers. It takes a good deal, but there's still probably a wallet-width of space for documents.

I doubt those are very deep. They're certainly not deep enough to take up all of the storage space behind them.

So I was just visiting the early-retirement.org website and someone put up a bitch post about too many screens on EVs. Basically, EVs mean SCREENS up the wazoo. Others rebutted that EVs don't mean screens and explicitly mentioned Slate.

That forum is where I learned about Slate. But apparently a lot of people blame all the high tech screens, surveillance and crap on EVs.

That's pretty frustrating.

I've been neutral about a certain rich guy, but if his cars cause people to think this, I'm pissed. And it isn't just social media. I'm seeing it soak into our law makers' bills. It is problematic when they start considering ridiculous tax rates based on the "fact" that EVs are all expensive, and other nonsense like monitoring our eyes and breath to "keep us safe."

Looks like tons of space, hoping the left side cover / speaker space is the same
Planing on some thing like the Kenwood Excelon KMM-X705 has HD radio & hands free calling, no big display. I can get HD in places here that I have no cell service
