So maybe a middle seat that is dual function? In place of the center console, in up position is like a bench seat, down is like a console. I’d find the attractive over pure bench seat.

Dual function would probably be easy to add as they would only need to add the middle part.
I'm hoping for an old-school flat bench seat, but no reason they can't make both!

my thinking is the full bench is a complete redo, but make a smaller convertible center seat is just another accessory that can be added anytime.

I would think a single bench seat would be cheaper to make than two bucket seats. It is so narrow, the seat would only hold 2 adults.

if slate doesnt provide it someone else will. I personally dont need a center console, a bench would be great.

Funny how things in life seem to always come full circle.

I remember the day when bench seating was standard equipment and bucket seats were the option.

And as a little kid, my Mom sitting close to my Dad in that middle. Then as a teen a date sitting close. Times did change.

just another vote for bench seat.

Increases the seating capacity by 50%!

Have 2 younger kids (oldest drives herself) and often have to drive two kids. If we need to haul everyone, will take wifes car.

The 2025 F150 still offers a bench, the promo photos of the configurator try to downplay it by only showing it folded down. But you can clearly see the headrest in front of the cupholders. That's really all Ford is required to do for safety. Make sure you don't hit the back glass in a rear-ender.

That would be the ideal way for slate to do it, just a drop-in center filler portion that goes between the seats where the cupholder area is. We crammed three adults in a '99 Ranger, we can do it in the Slate!

I had that on my 2021 F150. I used it for 3 up front exactly twice (short trip), but I surely liked the idea of it. That said, I'm a big vote for 3 up front...

Separate related question: will they have a key to turn off airbag for passenger seat for kids too small for airbags?

That's normally automatic, every newer car I've been in has a weight sensor, and pass. airbag on/off lights. It may be a legal requirement at this point.
