With the tax credit going away on 9/30, I’m canceling my Slate.

It was one thing when it was under $20K, but now it will be $27.5K when it actually comes out (probably more like $30K, but we’ll see).

I can get a Model Y today for $37.5K and it has well over double the range, can tow over 3X more, has an impressive sound system and comes with Autopilot standard.

Time to move into the future, not the past.

Sorry to hear. We'll be getting my wife a Y when she gets tired of her 2018 Model 3. I envision the Slate to be a 2nd car not the primary. It will be interesting to see what the stripped down Model Ys list for in Q4. Some YT videos are saying 20% less.

Yeah, not as many customization options, but also, it comes with 5 seats, you can wrap it if you want, and there’s plenty of aftermarket wheel options, so am I missing anything?

If it wasn't for the ultra-minimalist interiors, I'd consider a used Model 3, but I'm gonna keep holding onto my reservation and see what happens! Buying one or not it has been interesting so far to see a company start-to-eventual-finish fully produce a car from just prototypes.

I like another EVs more than Teslas ..!! I think the teslas are like coca colas.!! Everybody has one and all are exactly the same.!!! , not too many options, all the same boring colors. The same finish.!!! Everyone with the same white shoes.!! Great cars? Yes but no, I will pass with that brand.

Well since you asked a couple things like the fact that you think it will cost 27-30K when there's 0 evidence of that at this point. Like I understand that EV companies are notorious for over promising and not meeting expected prices. But Slate has consistently said it would start mid-20K since it's announcement, so you shouldn't say it will definitively start at 27.5K when Slate has never stated that at this point.

Also, it's an interesting cross shopping your doing since the Mustang Mach-E and Chevy Blazer EV is more direct competitors to the Model Y then the Slate Truck. But if you're happy with a Model Y more power to you. Like for me the Slate is a replacement for my Pickup truck the Model Y doesn't fulfill that need for me. But you aren't me, so if it does for you I hope you enjoy it.

Edit: Not trying to argue but in case you really are wondering what to pick between read on if you made up your mind than ignore this. It really depends on your needs. If you need a vehicle now with 5 seats then definitely get the Model Y before the tax credit goes away. But if you're buying the vehicle in 2026/2027 then there's reason to wait and see what the final price will be. Especially also at how attractive the monthly financing options will be since it could much cheaper than what you spend a month on Tesla. Especially when consider that after the Tax Credit is gone a Model Y isn't that price but more like 45K if you are looking at brand new, which you seem to be from the website. But I highly doubt you are cross shopping this with the Slate especially when you say "time to move into the future, not the past" which misses the whole point of the Truck.

Great. Y is a good vehicle but it’s also a totally different vehicle. Also, Slate says price will be mid-20’s. I find it very annoying how people keep throwing the $27.5k number out when that’s not the official price. $25k isn’t a big difference, but it makes it that much more competitive. $10k however, is a significant difference for many people. And once the tax credit’s gone that’ll be a $17.5k difference. Also, good luck when it needs repairs and I can tell you that insurance on my Model Y and Model 3 is frustratingly expensive despite all the safety systems. That’ll vary, and I can’t compare with the Slate yet, but I’m hoping based on the affordability and repairability that the Slate will be cheaper to insure.

On insurance, I'm hoping the insurance companies actually do the research to set the rates, and not just copy/paste something like Tesla or other electric trucks rates. With it being an all new truck and company, that might be an issue.

On insurance, My 22 MachE got tagged in the rear at a stop light on the way to work. Guy was in a Jeep and took off and it was twilight so my photo of his tag did not turn out. No you can not enhance photos like in the cop shows.. Had to get a new fiberglass hatch, rear fascia etc pull out the rear frame and paint the repairs in the booth. Of course to really paint they had to pull the Battery so they flatbed the truck to Ford to pull the battery for over $2k and do the repairs and cook the paint in the oven then send the car back to Ford to put the pack back in. Repair cost $26k total.

I understand now why premiums are nuts but glad I had it.
