That seems about right at least from what I've seen around id say closer to the $1200 but also that extra fee if you want it to your home
If I had to guess, I'd guess more towards the lower; the $1,200. That would be in-line with all the other pleasant surprises Slate has given us with things being lower than at least I expected.

Too bad there’s not an option to pick it up from the factory
I was really hoping this would be the case, not to save money on destination fee but it would just be a fun option. With the 200 mile range, the trip could easily be done on a single full charge for me.

Too bad there’s not an option to pick it up from the factory, like some of the European makers had (possibly still have?). I’m in west Michigan, so I’d gladly take the trip to Warsaw, IN to save a destination fee. šŸ˜‰
I know people who've done Corvette delivery at the Bowling Green plant and they paid the same destination charge as at the dealership.

As I understand it, a destination fee is required to be fixed and applied to all purchases, regardless of whether they were picked up at the factory or sent all the way across the country. On the other hand, a delivery fee that's charged for dropping a vehicle off at your home could be avoided by picking the vehicle up (at a dealer, usually, or whatever passes for a delivery depot if it's direct sales).

Of course, I'd be more than happy to drive to Indiana from Louisiana to pick up my Slate truck if it meant I didn't have to wait for however long "Delivery Window Coming Soon" ends up meaning, but I wouldn't save the yet-to-be-posted destination fee.

Maybe the home delivery fee but not destination charge, that will be a set fee everyone will pay no matter the distance. That is a Federal regulation. Been that way for a long time.

I'm no paralegal, but I've been known to do some light reading while at lunch, and today's fun hasn't shown me anywhere in law that requires the destination fee be fixed with the customary "equalized delivery" practice. Monroney (15 USC 1232) seems to only require the amount to be on the manufacturer-attached label, which wouldn't seem to preclude Slate charging variable amounts (as long as they were there on their separate line item on the label).

Regardless, I still would love a road trip to pick up a pickup.

Key Facts About Destination Fees
  • Nationwide Consistency: The fee does not fluctuate based on distance from the factory. The only occasional exceptions are for buyers in Alaska and Hawaii.
  • Non-Negotiable: Because the charge is set by the manufacturer to cover average freight costs, it cannot be negotiated and must be paid even if you arrange a factory pickup.
  • Vary by Vehicle: Fees are not standardized across the industry; they vary depending on the size, weight, and sometimes luxury status of the vehicle. For example, larger vehicles and trucks (like Ford or Ram models) generally carry higher destination fees than smaller sedans.

Is this even known/confirmed anywhere? Obviously it wasn't part of the reservation/pre-order process - but I also haven't seen it anywhere else obvious or in the FAQ.

I don’t think it’s mandated that there is a destination fee

But if there is one, there are rules about it
