Feedback on a prototype camper for the Slate

Personally I'd Make it as close to the slates design but I know that can be a headache I love it but what about a pop up type that could lay in the bed and extend out into that design

However it's made, when closed up it's got to be able to hold the mattress and whatever else is going in. I do wonder if aluminum and/or composites would get better weight and strength numbers.

Not interested personally, but definitely impressed. Understand length vs tailgate, but what if fully bed length that could offer a choice, tailgate or fully extend with adjustable legs?

just do a google search on issues with truck bed tents....might as well just do ground tents. I've done ground tents quite a bit and where they get challenging is with families. We like to do big summer camp trips where you camp at multiple destinations on the way and pack/set up times become crucial.

Would love some feedback on a hard sided camper design I created for the Slate truck.

I'm interested in a camper shell for the Slate.

While I'm impressed with your design and ingenuity, this design seems too complex & heavy. I see problems with the sliding part such as water leaks and wear. Overall it goes against the Slate ethos of reliable simplicity. But that's just me.

What other materials have you considered for the panels? Some travel trailer manufacturers will use polystyrene foam boards laminated with aluminum and/or vinyl.

Yah that's true for the size unless it's a custom mattress that could roll up maybe and aluminum at the right thickness could be the better option for cost

OP specifically says "4 inch foam mattress", so foldable/rollable.

I think this, or something similar, will be a perfect addition to the Slate truck. I brought up a similar idea in another thread, but you're WAY ahead of my thinking on this.

A good solution for that is a hub tent that simplifies and speeds up the process..

Lol, well indeed yes, anything that I get does need a kayak carrier! 🥰

But I do love the innovation! The only reason I wouldn't want one is that my tent has an 11' x 11' floor size and fits a queen size cot. I just got a queen sized Exped MegaMat too. I wasn't kidding about glamping! 😉

That looks like a very nice tent. A lot heavier than my Eureka Sunrise 11, which unfortunately they don't make anymore. Nice tent with great ventilation, easy to set up once you figure it out and only 24 lbs. vs. 61 lbs for the Backcountry T5. And I'm watching my weight with the Slate 😉
