Adding 5k to the cost of the base model puts it squarely in Leaf, Bolt, EV4 and mystery Ford EV territory. Love the idea of a basic vehicle but I see the competition putting the squeeze on Slate with the suv option.

Basic Slate with full SUV has to come in under $30k IMHO. SUV/topper without seats, rollerbar, airbags closer to $2k max

Ability to convert to an SUV at any time in the future helps.

I looked at the Leer site, and they sell similar size shells with windows and insulation for about $2,000 to $2,500. They will probably make one that fits the Slate when they start making the Slate. They make shells for just about everything else. Our 1997 F150 with a Leer shell doesn't leak and is sturdy fiberglass with windows. Almost 30 years old!

I didn't find many pictures of the Slate cargo top, but it looks like they don't have the big sunroof like the SUV does. Some of the pictures I saw looked like they might have had side windows that were wrapped (or maybe it was just a prototype). Someone said the rear doors were "barn doors", two doors like a van rather than a tailgate. I haven't seen a picture of the back.
