I remain skeptical regarding the acoustic quality of the front facing dash mounted speakers. The plastic shell behind the cavity will likely resonate at low frequencies and sound buzzy and distorted at moderate volume. I would like to see sound dampening material lining the cubbies. If Slate doesn’t offer this, I will be modding this myself.

I think that is the correct approach

On the bright side,
- They're Systems Thinkers designing an experience.
- They know good audio quality is part of the experience.

I find whistling while I drive to be enjoyable enough and actually kind of uplifting. Puts me in a better mood than all those blaring commercials and cackling morning shows.
Sounds like an external speaker and amp would work for you to entertain other folks when stuck in traffic. :D

I'm a cheap old boomer. Found something perfect for the Slate dash. A working AM push button radio, taken from my 1969 AMC Rebel when I junked it. It will also sound better than original; I now know how to build a speaker box instead just screwing the speaker into the dash. When Slate publishes their final specks for their production vehicle, I'll have my son 3D print a mount to fit it all in. I might have to spend some $$ on fuzzy dice for the mirror.

Random thought, get some seats from a junk Fiero (They had the speakers built into the headrest.)
