It's probably baked into American auto industry corporate ethos to make massive blunders every decade or so.
Lee Iacocca and Bob Lutz seem to have been the only ones who had their shit together.

I don't think having grizzled auto industry veterans is necessarily indicative of success. Look at what the execs at Jaguar did to its brand and image with one poor advertising decision.
I doubt grizzled veterans had any creative input in the ad I'm thinking about.

I mean someone high ranking in the Jaguar section of Jaguar Land Rover had to have signed off on the ad, its messaging, themes, etc that the company they contracted out to do produced.

You have a point there. And actually, one of the things Ford is doing with their skunk works BEV is keeping the grizzled industry veterans out of the room. So yea, point taken.
