It's probably baked into American auto industry corporate ethos to make massive blunders every decade or so.
Lee Iacocca and Bob Lutz seem to have been the only ones who had their shit together.

I don't think having grizzled auto industry veterans is necessarily indicative of success. Look at what the execs at Jaguar did to its brand and image with one poor advertising decision.
I doubt grizzled veterans had any creative input in the ad I'm thinking about.

I mean someone high ranking in the Jaguar section of Jaguar Land Rover had to have signed off on the ad, its messaging, themes, etc that the company they contracted out to do produced.

You have a point there. And actually, one of the things Ford is doing with their skunk works BEV is keeping the grizzled industry veterans out of the room. So yea, point taken.

Remember when Coca Cola changed its formula in the 80's to compete with Pepsi. They introduced New Coke, a classic marketing failure. After all the marketing folks got fired, they re-introduced Coca-Cola Classic! Lessons learned.

I never heard of this guy before. He "really wants to like" the Slate, though he clearly doesn't. What BS. Just like his channel. That's my impression anyway.

He has 1 million subscribers. That's impressive. But there are a lot more car buyers out there who have never heard of him. People who aren't car enthusiasts. Maybe all publicity is good publicity?

I was a fan of "Car Talk" with Click and Clack on NPR back in the day. They were funny and I heard them on my errands.

But people like me aren't represented by these enthusiast channels. Even though we still buy cars. And I want an EV with 2 doors, no back seat, a camper shell and a roof rack. And I'm feeling hopeful about Slate being able to deliver me one next year. 😉

That's why I'm on this board. Anticipation.

Anyhoo... it's almost comical how many reviewers (Tommy among them) ding the Slate for exactly the reasons we want one - small, not a crew cab, simple, and disconnected from tech.

Slate is perfect for a two-car family. Use a four-door gasser for people-hauling and road trips. Use the Slate for commuting, hauling stuff, and everything else.

Nah, I just listened to them on the radio. Everyone I knew did, they were fun. Most of us weren't otherwise into cars:)

And I agree with your use cases. I'd also say that Slate is perfect for empty nesters who just want one car. People visiting usually bring their own.

I'm planning on doing road trips in the Slate too:) I have a friend who comes camping with us in his EV. The Slate seems capable per their specs of carting everything I need. And at least where I plan to travel there are plenty of charging stations.

I had always assumed the interior of the bed was composite rather than painted steel. Something in this video made me think that perhaps it isn’t a composite. Anyone know for sure?

I'm 100% positive the bed is composite plastic.
