Probably just pick up a wireless CarPlay unit and use it. iPhone stays on me, instant on when I get in, along with access to nav/tunes/etc…through CP. Of course, not sure where the power source is - USB plug? If not I have battery chargers I can stick on whatever I end up with.
The motorcycle industry has good solutions for a display that supports Android Auto or Carplay. Numerous models to choose from. Designed to survive the moto environment, so they will easily handle inside an electric pickup truck.

About the size of a phone in landscape. Bluetooth music offered in most models.

This is an interesting product, but that being said, I already own something the size of a phone in landscape mode that shows all my apps.

What is of consideration for a Carpuride is being designed for motorcycle use, it's quite a robust and tough device. It is waterproof, meant for use under very broad temperature environments, has a bright, hooded, anti reflective display, and is set up to broadcast over Bluetooth stored music files. Their models also support wireless cameras and TPMS and all have GPS navigation with route planning. And a great feature, an SOS app to get emergency help in case of an accident.

Carpurride also has automotive based units as well. And lots of mounting options.

Just suggesting for consideration. IMO, a great solution for a Slate for folks who want a bit more tech than zero.

Garmin makes competitive moto devices as well.

So, what are you saying? You want a permanent tablet attached to the dashboard?
Yeah, but no battery something I can pull up android auto or maps on a larger screen. I might just get one if those andriod auto head unit screens that amazon has i like having maps up when i drive for traffic info.

Oh, I have several of those USBC to Lightning adapters. Slate's pictures show a USBC port in the bottom of the dashboard phone mount. An iPhone with one of those adapters plugged in is unlikely to work in the dash mount.
Well, I certainly hope a solution is ironed out before Slate is offered for sale. I don't need another expense like a new iPhone 16 so that it is compatible with the Slate. I'm still using an iPhone XR with a lightning connector, and it's working well for me.

I expect that they have more worked out already. On accessories, we are basically seeing the exact same set we were seeing when they went public over a year ago. If accessories are going to be a profit driver for the company, they've just about got to have a lot more lined up. Many may be coming from 3rd parties, and under NDA either until preorders start, or actual orders of accessories start, etc.
However, on the lightning connector, the iphone 15 came out in 2023, the 14 was the last to use lighting, and the XR discontinued in 2021. The 14 was discontinued Feb 2025. So support may be limited. There should be some solution, that single phone mount probably won't work for lots of phones, especially with cases, since it seems to have a fixed position USB-C connection.

You can celebrate your new Slate EV truck with a new iPhone with a fresh screen with no scratches or cracks, more storage and a fresh battery. :)

How would that work? Why would a Non-Disclosure Agreement (I think that's what you meant?...) be necessary for a 3rd party company to produce stuff that works with the Slate? In comparison with other automotive aftermarket parts suppliers, not all supply the OEM but are direct to the consumer.

I'm curious to know where you get this information, or if it's original research on your part.

Slate plans to sell 3rd party accessories, basically the "maker" will be their marketplace, where you will see a 3d rendering of the accessory in the truck. This has been mentioned in some videos.

My thinking is neither Slate nor the 3rd party is going to want to give other companies extra time to produce knock-offs to sell elsewhere, so none of these 3rd party partnerships have been announced, and no new items shown.

I gotta find these videos where Slate announces their Slate Branded Accessories will be supplied by outside vendors/suppliers.

I can certainly see an aftermarket scene developing but not necessarily as suppliers to Slate but direct to the consumer.

All I would need is that same dash mount with the charging port removed, provided the mount is adjustable for width and thickness. My understanding is that the Slate also provides another USB port for those who want to connect their device with a cable. The USB connection is only to charge and update Slate software. You wouldn't be doing the second part while driving.

I don't need a new iPhone. My March 2023 13 mini is still supported and has 94% battery capacity.

While yes, many of the Slate branded items will be made by outside companies, or do you think they are dedicating factory space to things like making floor mats? They also plan to sell 3rd party branded items in the Maker. You should be able to order brand name bluetooth speakers, probably things like weathertech, and other brands, it will be a marketplace, where 3rd parties can sell their stuff and Slate gets a cut, just like if you sell on Amazon, ebay, or walmart's sites, they get a cut.

If you could post the video, that would be great. Sounds like something worth going over.

  1. Using your phone, in portrait or landscape, is not the same as CarPlay. The interface is quite different, both for the dashboard and many of the apps.
  2. If you put the phone in landscape, you will be frustrated with apps that don't support the mode, including the primary dashboard.
  3. I really hope they don't put the plug directly on the mounting bracket. There are too many different sized phones and there's no way to ensure the plug lines up perfectly with the outlet in every case. If they make the walls of the bracket adjustable, then there will be vibration issues that would trash the phone's outlet.
  4. There are a number of double din CarPlay/AA compatible gadgets many for less than $100.
