Many years ago someone talked me into buying Nike sneakers online under super stressful circumstances. I forgot what the process was called but I kept missing out. Apparently many folks managed just fine and made a comfortable living out of resales.

I'm waiting for the tow package to be announced and priced.

I have two trucks in the maker. One is fully tricked out like I want, and one only has the things that would require replacing something (bumpers, wheels, LED lights, etc). I'll price both with the big battery and small battery and see how it goes.
The only real accessory I need other than the big battery is some speakers, but I’m almost certainly going to do that third party. I expect within a couple weeks of the truck actually getting into people’s hands Crutchfield will already have the necessary accessories and speaker sizes sorted out and there will be guides on how to get it all sorted out.

I don’t use my sound system too much so I’m happy to ride in a quiet EV for a little bit. I’ve been noticing lately how much of the sound I hear in the car is just the engine, so that’ll be a nice change of pace.

The two key things for me to pre-order will be a) no crazy surprise on price for base slate and key accessories I want (which I don't foresee) and b) my delivery time slot not being a significant disappointment. The latter is what I predict being the main deterrent for the serious buyers as waiting more than 12 months likely will be in the cards for most of us.

Delivery date could absolutely be a factor. I’m trying to remain optimistic about the timeline. I’d really like to get it December-February.

I agree with this entire statement.

So it appears there’s a lot of discussions around speakers, and Slate has a few options in the Slate maker which can be compared against 3rd party versions, once full specifications are released.

Frankly I’m a bit surprised that Slate doesn’t show any options for an integrated head unit with a built in receiver, amplifier, auxiliary and BT inputs, etc. The head unit should command way more attention than speakers, and probably will be the number one requested option aside from the larger battery pack and SUV kits. Hope to see this showing up on the maker within a few weeks.

A big glass touchscreen "infotainment" center is antithetical to the Slate ethos. Part of what makes a Slate a Slate is the lack of a head unit!

If you want a Cybertruck, just buy a Cybertruck.

Maybe I'm one of the last generation to be capable of "raw-dogging it" 🤮 as the youth say, driving for an hour just watching out the windows, not distracted by music or a podcast or RGB LEDs or an LCD display. I'm looking forward to not having an audio system in my Slate.

If they do offer one, it ought to look like this:

Slate Auto Pickup Truck Pre-ordering opens at 9:30 AM PT / 12:30 PM ET (June 24) s-l1600

Maybe replace the Bakelite knobs with fresh ones and clean up the chrome a little.

An analog dashboard clock and/or ball compass under the rearview would also be tolerable concessions to practicality.

Really?? Not sure what you are talking about. I am referring to an onboard music source unit, something with a tuner, amp, a small dial or display and a way of selecting music inputs. Not a touch screen. Where did i mention a big touchscreen or infotainment screen?

Honestly, I'm surprised you're surprised. Back before touchscreens and custom radio mounts, the first thing many people did after buying a car was upgrade the head unit (and often the speakers as well).

Why on Earth would Slate want to install something that so many people replace with after-market units? (or occasionally remove outright.)

Oh wow... I put in my pre-order on day three and don't expect to see the truck until Spring next year. I'd love for it to be sooner of course...

They have said that max capacity of the factory will be around 150k per year and they have over 160k, possibly as much as 180k, reservations. Sure likely only X% of those will convert, but also the factory won't be producing at full capacity right away... I'm expecting them to take the entire year to burn through the pre-order list.

Ask if the slate would be a midnight release or later in the day! So early morning and afternoon 😆

THis is the answer I got and love it!

Hi David,

You got it right! You'll have 30 days starting June 24th to place your preorder and lock in your priority delivery timing. No rush. Pour your morning coffee, catch the news, maybe squeeze in an early lunch. If you have any questions on June 24th, give us a call. We're here.

Those with existing reservations, I like the fact that you’ll know the delivery window before going forward with the preorder.

No surprises.
