Honestly, hesitant to post this since you can't really even call it competition yet since they don't even have a prototype yet just a concept. But bringing it up since the concept is similar to slate. Their plan is to make an Electric AWD Kit Car Pick Up Truck. They are basing it off the Suzuki Carry Kei Car to be affordable to the masses. Everything will be open source to be fully customizable. Apparently originally the project was to be based off the Ford Bronco but they have since switched over to a Kei Car Concept. Really, shows how big of a splash Slate has made in the automotive industry. They are making it a kit car since they feel like it would require much less capital to develop and get approved for road use. Until they have a prototype and an actual team to build it you can't really compare it. It's also a kit car not a fully built pickup truck. But just found out about this and wanted to share here since the concept feels very Slate inspired.

Doubtful I’ll ever see it, but interesting nonetheless.
i do have to wonder why there isn’t a Japanese made version.

BEV’s are a very small market in Japan so there isn’t much interest in making them right now. Electric Kei Vans are seemingly started to be looked at so if those are successful we might see them one day.

Looks like it won't likely be a competitor, going to be small scale, and a "kit car" so they will likely ship you a mostly assembled truck, you have to finish it, and do a pile of paperwork to get it street legal. I saw mention of it taking someone 2 years to get a kit car registered. This gets around needing all the safety features and crash testing etc that most vehicles need to have.

I wouldn’t mind if it had the sides of the bed fold down or be able to remove them from ish the slate could do that but sadly no well unless some made man makes a kit that both reinforce the parts needed and cuts the stuff on the sides off hmmmmm

This reminds me of the minivan which was sold by Cushman in the 1990s. It was available in gas or electric as I recall and seemed to be a rebadged Kei van. It was not road legal but marketed to colleges etc. for use in transporting people around campuses.

I cancelled my slate deposit and looking forward to this instead. I like commercial electric vehicles over consumer grade so it was a no brainer for me. I totally understand how someone else would feel the opposite with slate being better for consumer perspective especially with all the 3d printed add ons. The only thing that bothered me was not having electric windows. Coming from Land Cruisers I like super beefy axles and body on frame construction. I was also tad biased as I always wanted a Kei Truck EV and was about to import one from China. I was having trouble finding one that can go above 35mph, preferably 85mph for the highway.
