I really wish they'd give us at least one solid video of it just driving around. No cuts, nothing fancy. A simple ride along for a minute or two on some basic suburban roads.

I often (maybe too often) watch YouTube channels where people drive around having conversations in vehicles. They use action cameras (e.g. GoPros) or cellphones and wireless microphones. I seems pretty easy to do.

The better ones have multiple camera angles by mounting cameras on the dashboard or windshield or whatever. Maybe mount a GoPro on the rear window pointing forward to see the road ahead through the windshield. A moderately talented video editor can mix footage together for an excellent result.

Slate could pole-mount 360-degree camera on the tailgate and get cool views from there to mix in. The software edits out the pole, so it's just a bird-eye view that can pan around from above and behind the vehicle.

The perfect template for a video wold be a Video Motorcycle Review. The feviewer does a walk-around, starts the bike and rides it around (talking the whole time, of course), stops at some appropriate location (a park, a scenic viewpoint, etc) and does another walk-around, then rides back to the starting point and does a wrap-up walk-around.

Obviously there'd be drone footage in the mix.

Hey! Drone footage! Here's an idea for a 2-minute video, Slate:
Play the audio from some of the already-produced videos where people from Slate are talking about the company and the Truck. For the video, just show clips of a Truck driving around various places as viewed from a drone camera.

Exactly, it can be all nice and curated. It doesn't have to be a live-feed or anything like that. I just want to see it actually start and stop and drive around a bit.

We'll probably never get a prototype live-drive from anyone after Elio had the fender incident.

Agree. My opinion is that when someone only lets you look at something for just seconds or fractions of a second at a time, they are hiding something from you. These videos to me are just making the Slate endeavor mostly a smoke and mirrors operation. It does not build confidence in consideration that the truck will be worth purchasing.

I think Slate is doing itself a disservice with such videos.

My thoughts exactly. The teaser videos and images that last just a few seconds are purposely designed to create a perception that Slate is further along in the design process than they are. The dismissive nature of the email responses from the ‘Slate Team’ (eg. “great question; we don’t know and can’t say; but stay tuned“) speaks volumes that they are falling behind.

Granted, it’s a very aggressive plan and the clock is ticking loudly. Looking at their hiring activity on Linked In proves they still don’t have key talent in key positions. This community needs positive reinforcement that Slate is on track. I remain optimistic but not feeling it lately.

The videos that they have been posting have been formatted for tik tok and reels ads. I'd expect longer format videos and hands on reviews once they have production test units built, rather than these hand-built prototypes. That will probably be sometime early next year as my guess.

Slate gave me a call this past Friday. The girl I had talked to said to be on the look out for more released information shortly. That they were on track with the demolition and such at the plant. Also that more dates for Slate to state would be released end of September, early October. I'm hopeful.

I think that their commercials are like that because they aren't paying for full fledted ads and it is more geared towards online/app type advertisements. Since they dont have a nice, finalized production model to really look at yet, they don't want you pointing out every little panel mis-alignment like some people are. 😁

Then perhaps they should have remained secret like they had been since 2022 to give themselves more time to mature the product.

We're in sausage making mode.
