All this talk of 100,000 reservations in the first few weeks of Slate’s introduction….

Now about 18 weeks later

there’s been virtually no updates on the latest tally.

Would anyone like to hazard a guess as what the reservation list looks like now??

One would expect Slate to publish that number, especially if it’s still on the rise.

Or has the excitement sizzled down?

Thoughts??

I doubt they will publish the number, whether good or bad. If the number hasn't grown, then it's obviously bad optics. If it's increased 10x, then people see that demand has far outpaced capacity and may cancel reservations.

Completely right. Everyone "knows" previous vehicle launches have had abysmally low conversions from reservations to orders, but slate if they can do what they are planning, may break that trend.

I'm sure reservations slowed down, but in the months since then, they still have likely at least doubled that, which would put the number of reservations well past their planned yearly production. That would look scary for people coming into it fresh, and doing the quick math that tells them they will be waiting until 2028 or later. There still will be a significant number of cancellations, because some people just wanted to hold their slot, some will change their minds, and some like me may have their situations change before launch.

For me, if my current car doesn't hold out, and I have to buy something else, I may not be able to afford a slate by launch. Actually with the way the car market seems to be going, I may not be able to buy something else even though I am saving towards having most of $27500 saved up by late next year, and I might be forced to spend the $7k+ on the transmission if it fails. The car isn't worth $7k according to KBB, which makes that a bad option.
