I’m looking at a new Civic Sport Touring for $32K and 50 mpg. Not comparable to a Slate but it checks all my boxes for $30-35K.
Since you like Honda products, take a look at the Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX - both are GM Ultium platforms but for a short 2 year lease until Slate starts up, I think I am going to go with them!

Huge $20K price drops makes it very tempting.

What am I missing? Comparables? I don’t see them. Marverick is not EV, other EV’s not a pickup. Already have a hybrid truck. Other EV pickups totally another budget. Cello? Even at $42k I don’t expect to see it available, especial in same timeframe. Even same price as Slate, it’s ugly.
Set my point at $35k. Most likely I have a $2500 trans cost most don’t. Would like the topper (no seat configuration), and possibly larger battery, but could possibly get without either, but again I don’t see a comparable choice.
Comparable pound for pound in a fight? No. But comparable for fitting my use cases, yep.

If a pickup is a need for you, yes you’re totally right! Slate just fits my other needs, none of which are being a pickup

Yes, silly me.
When looking to replace wife’s 3 seat SUV, only looked at other 3 seat SUV’s.
When looking to replace my truck, only looked at other trucks.
Dang, after my divorce, I only dated women.
When my Boxer girl Kalani passed, only looked at other Boxers.
Must be getting old.

Ray of sunshine!

If you want to play that game, then I’m happy to inform you the Slate is actually also an SUV!
So add the solterra, Kona, equinox, etc to the comparable list.

But the fact of the matter is most consumers have multiple cars and styles that fit their needs. Someone who buys a pickup may also have their needs met with a full sized SUV. Someone who buys a sedan can also buy a hatchback.
For some consumers, their needs dictate that only one style is acceptable. For some, they have flexibility. And I think Slate is trying to capture that, not alienate those buyers

For sure. Nobody knows anything! That’s why I included 32.5 in my post a few up. Just an optimistic guess. Probably wrong. At 35 MSRP for suv kit and extended range battery, the slate runs into stiff competition in the suv category

I’d sure hope too. If not the aftermarket will cover it
Already have a crude topper design started if it comes to that. Must have for the dogs. No topper, no Slate. Depending on Slate price will finish if I need to compare.

The only difference is your 1980's cell phone tech advancement was driven by market forces (i.e. product competition) that created smaller and more efficient transistors and supporting electronic components for a wide array electronic devices, none of which was forced by government legislation.
Yet we're still going to continue to fund fossil fuel production with tax dollars, but noooo, we don't want to spend money on cleaner air. 🤦‍♂️

50 MPG is still about twice the fuel cost of a Slate for me (which would be free if I end up going solar). Depends how much you drive and if you need a truck bed I suppose.

Not sure I'm interested in another GM EV. My Silverado EV is back in the shop. I've had it for two months and for about half of that it's been in the shop...

I’m looking at the Civic because it’s a hybrid and my home charging option has changed. Long story. Of course, I might find a home charging solution by the time the Slate comes out. Let’s just say I’m keeping all my options open.

Yes! I have 6+ acres, an old farm house, with a solar generator. If I add 30 miles per day, I'll be running on sunshine. The Slate is the right size for this place. I have missed my Ford Ranger ever since the oil pump blew. Why not a side by side? A good SXS, electric is about the same price and is restricted where you can drive. The Slate is street and highway legal, with heat and A/C. And made in the USA.

Can the internet just collectively decide already that this is impossible for a lot of things nowadays (and especially for EVs) as the last couple pages of this thread have shown?

The EV tax credit's existence is inherently political and it's an important part of the discussion when politicians have shaped government policy around a power train -- both for and against. Just let it happen and have the mods come down on any posts that get ugly.

Unless this is a warning against blatant red vs blue shouting matches?
