For those few who care, Jim Farley let an interesting tidbit slip in a podcast this week. I was listening earlier today. He dropped something to the effect (paraphrasing) "We'll probably be showing our new BEV truck later this year".

That makes it interesting. Before taking delivery of our Slates, we'll be able to compare with something other than "The Phantom Menace". We'll see what Ford is delivering, probably get some solid specs, but probably not get anything more than a vague price range.

I think Ford's offering will provide stiff competition for those who are thinking of a Slate only in its SUV configuration, and insist of the larger battery...
For only a little bit more (or maybe the same price?), it will provide rear doors...

Valid point. Personally I'm going from a maverick hybrid to a slate because I don't want the extra two doors. I want room in my garage to put my chest freezer back which I had to move because the Maverick was too damn long. And my wife has a 4 door for when we need one.

But for most people that will be an important part of the decision.

Rear seats and doors are a non-starter for me.

Ford should literally buy slate. These auto mfg have so much hubris and not invented here.

GM has cars that compete against each other.

So endless recalls and everything on a subscription, oh and add Ford quality, or rather lack of and it will finish Slate before it starts.
FORD = Fix Or Repair Daily remember.

I thought it was "Found on Road Dead".

I've owned several of each from the big 3 and at least one of all the Japanese including their sub brands like Acura and Infinity and trucks from all of the big 3. All new.

Tesla the best with no issues but less than 3 years of ownership. The 5 Fords have been the next most reliable with one warranty or DIY repair in 20+ years of ownership. Dodge also only had one but that complaint was made as a joke. In 8+ years of ownership, the only warranty complaint I made for the Dodge was the shift pattern disk on top of the shifter would rotate a few degrees per month. Honda next closest. Late 80's GM the worst but still tolerable. With any vehicle, just don't buy a first year, research issues with a model you are considering before buying. If you do that, the odds of having issues with any brand are miniscule. Of course doing those things might rule out a huge percent of some brands offerings. loL

Eh, I own a 2022 Ford Bronco. Look at the NHSTA site and the MY 2022 has the highest count of recalls at 20 among the production years 2021 to 2026. Seven (7) of the recalls are about the stupid rear camera, which basically doesn't turn off after you shift from reverse gear only in off-road, low-range mode (i.e. the transfercase is in low gear). Its a software issue. BFD.

Then one recall is about the "accessibility" of the seatbelt latch (LOL). Another is about the load data label on the driver's door (sill). 95% of owners never read that label or don't understand what it means.

One was regarding the proper application of windshield adhesive. Fixed before sale; BFD.

A few are serious, regarding steering gear damage during production, however, just 343 Broncos were affected. Another recall is about lower front control arm detachment/separation, just 4,500 Broncos affected, with just 3 Broncos with an actual separation. Side impact sensors, just 1,226 units affected. A loose bolt in the auto transmission, just 1,138 vehicles affected, not all were Broncos.

There were a few recalls that were significant in the number of Broncos/Ford vehicles affected. The 2.7L engine valvetrain manufacturing defect, 90,736 Ford vehicles affected. Rear shock reservoir, 149,449 Broncos affected. And the whopper, low-pressure fuel pump, 850,318 Ford vehicles affected. All poor production quality issues by suppliers; still Ford's responsibility though.

But my experience with the Bronco has been great. It averages 21 MPG. The hard top comes off and goes back on without a hitch (just put mine back on yesterday). With the proper equipment (a top hoist) it is a one-man operation. The top is well engineered IMO. The Bronco can go nearly anywhere you care to drive it. It is entertaining to drive (when it has the 2.3L EcoBoost and manualtransmission setup).

I am waiting for the fuel pump fix.

I was interested to see what ford is cooking up until I seen model year 2028 which means late Q3, Q4 2027

hoping my Slate will be a year old by then

also ford trying to say priced about $25k 2.5 years from now is laughable

heck, I’m hoping and praying the Slate will be able to stay $25k ish

but I’m interested to see if ford is listening to the rumbling or if they will try to package this up to be a $40k vehicle

I put a deposit on $28,000.00 Aptera. That will not happen.

I think at this point, the R in Ford can stand for recall.
