Another benefit of remotely starting pre-conditing is if your vehicle is plugged in, if you start pre-conditing, it doesn't draw from the battery. If you are getting ready to go to work, and it is still plugged in from overnight charging, use the app to start the pre-conditioning while you get ready for work. It will be ready to go and it was still charging by the time you leave.

How does the app communicate with the vehicle?

I would prefer pressing a button on the fob.

For work days, schedule pre-conditioning to happen at an appropriate time.

As far as we've been told, the app communicates with the vehicle through a USB connection.
Possibly the app would be used to set it up. Possibly scheduling, but so far there is no sign that the truck even has a digital clock. Possibly programming what the button press on the fob does.
This is all speculation for now though.
