Slate Auto Pickup Truck What side will Charging Port be on? 1776091318997-oo

I know they are showing the charging port on the drivers side in all the previews, but in the video (first couple seconds) "Inside Slate Auto’s EV Facility | Tour with CEO & Lead Engineer" it clearly shows a nacs port on the passenger side. The sign on the wall isn't reversed so it isn't a mirrored camera shot.

I searched the forums and no one seems to have noticed this yet.

I think, and hope that the facility tour chassis was a beta one they were trying out and they finalized on driver rear. Using a NACS and using the Tesla Supercharger network, the driver rear is the best position as that is what most superchargers are configured for, with fairly short cables.

Passenger front would be as good as driver rear for Superchargers. The advantage of passenger front is that if you have a trailer you wouldn’t have to remove the trailer to get the charging port next to the Supercharger at most sites.

So the charging port is on the rear left. So people like me will hsve to back up their Slate into a one car garage? My Chevy Bolt has the port on front left.

My one car garage has the electrical outlet on the left near the garage door which would be perfect for driving forward in and backing out., so you can't please everyone.

I think I heard somewhere that the charging port was moved from its original location to the rear driver's side. I don't remember where I heard that though.

All our cars have the port on different spots, our driveway is on the left side of the house if facing it, goes all the way along the side, and we added a pad to the right in front of the house so we don't have to do the hokey pokey to get out. The charger is on that front left corner, the easiest to charge is the Ranger as it's port is in the front, so I either back all the way into the driveway and plug in or pull in straight and plug in. The Mitsubishi has the charge port on passenger rear, so I usually back that onto the spare pad so that corner is closest to the charger. The Prologue would also do best on the right side pad just pulling in as it's port is driver front, so opposite corner as the Mitsubishi, but my wife just backs in on the main drive, our cable reaches it but that's pretty much it's limit.

I guess for driver rear the best spot for me would be back in where the Prologue goes, which may work well as my wife will take over the Mitsubishi so that will work where it is, and my plan is the Slate takes the place of my Ranger and we let the Prologue go when the lease is up, at least the current plan, still have a couple years to be sure on all that.

I would prefer it was on the front. I don’t like backing into parking spaces. It seems like there is always someone behind me. I rarely can back into my own driveway. When you back out of a spot, you can always wait to see when the traffic is clear.

Not installing charger until I know, but if I go Level 2, Slate may get relegated to the tractor shed as easier there than garage. Level 1 won’t matter, move my Tundra to shed maybe. One of the joys of being off grid.

Don't some states have laws against backing into traffic?

I usually back into a driveway or parking space for that reason and because it's easier when leaving. Sometimes other drivers just don't drive with courtesy.

My employer has a rule that when operating company owned vehicles you must park in a pull through spot if available otherwise back in unless it is a diagonal spot where you are facing the wrong way when you pull out. Apparently less accidents that way.

It was stated by Slate somewhere that while some the first prototypes had the port on the passenger side, it will be on the driver's side.
With a backup camera, backing in should be less of an issue, but some people don't seem to know how to park or pull out of a parking space either way. I park front in, and both park and pull out in one move, but I'm always seeing people who appear to hold their steering wheel dead straight the whole time any part of their car is in the parking space, so they end up having to switch between forward and reverse a couple of times to get in or out.
