Crippleware subscription features are repugnant.

They're the kind of thing people attracted to the Slate want to avoid.

Why is this so difficult for you to understand?
Good Lord dude, you just never give up trying to make other members on this forum look bad; and you're unsuccessful here in this thread as well. You just like to argue.

If the 2026 Maverick owner decides not to buy a subscription to Ford's connectivity package he is no worse off than the 2027 Slate owner who as no ability to get equivalent tech in the Truck because Slate doesn't offer it. It's the same for either owner.

<facepalm>

Sorry I hurt your feelings. That's a by-product, not my intent.

Some people don't like subscription features and some other features the Maverick has. Just accept that and move on.

At risk of sounding like an idiot here…. How is an optional subscription that adds additional features worse than not even offering the option for the subscription and features?

It really depends on the person as to if it is or not but even then its usually a moral thing. Some people don't like needing to pay for features that their vehicle has as they believe that should be included in buying the vehicle. Some people don't like even the possibility that things can phone home so to speak.

Now you are even making less sense and people are starting to notice.

Can I suggest that you guys give it a rest? I don't think there is anything more to add to the discussion.

Only speaking for myself, it doesn't seem like "adding additional features". It seems more like "holding built-in features for ransom".

For example, if I paid for a car with built-in heated seats I shouldn't be required to pay a fee to turn them on.

Paying tens of thousands of dollars for a car and then getting nickled-and-dimed for Paywall Features doesn't seem like full ownership.

Satisfaction is apparently declining.

The place to discuss Subscription Features would be this thread:
Subscription Features Poll

Current sentiment:
Slate Auto Pickup Truck Who’s Reserving the Slate EV: Everyday Americans, Young Professionals, New Drivers, Contemporary Seniors, Auto Enthusiasts Subscription_Poll_Snapshot

I've even conjured up a scenario where subscription features might be added without perverse incentive creeping in. If there's a lot of demand for it, I'd reluctantly agree that it would the right thing to do.

The only legitimate thing I can think of is some sort of hardware dongle and wireless service that allows remote access via the app, where the subscription is for the wireless service part.
I'd prefer things like that be held back for later. Meanwhile Slate should remain laser-focus on getting the OG Truck into production.

I've never said the Maverick is a competitor for me personally, I've consistently said the Slate and the Maverick are competitors in the automotive marketplace. They are both small pickup trucks that sell within $5K MSRP of each other.
MMMM, not exactly accurate by your own posts. You say competitor as a blanket statement in one post then a competitor in the automotive market place in another.

All in good fun.

Now where is my beating a dead horse meme?????

Oh, there it is.

Have a great holiday season folks. Merry Christmas to all and Happy New Year!!!!

Good Lord. Both the Maverick and the Slate are small pickup trucks and therefore are competitors in the automotive marketplace. They are not competitors in the spacecraft marketplace for example.

One is an all electric and one is not. Therefore not competitors for those that are only seeking a fully electric.
It’s pretty simple math. A Prius would be a closer competitor for that market segment.

I've bought three pickup trucks in my lifetime. Each I bought because I needed a pickup truck, not because I needed an ICEV.

If someone wants a low-priced EV sedan like the Prius why would they buy a 2-door, 2-seat pickup truck. One buys a pickup truck for the open bed and the utility that brings to the use case.

Thats understandable if everyone was here for just getting a small cheap pickup, and while that might be a main reason behind the company's messaging, some of us aren't here for that. It could be argued that the SUV kit could be a competitor to the Prius. Or to the Equinox EV. I'm personally going to drop this topic after this message because its going around in circles constantly now, but I just want to say, I don't think that you can discount any of the SUV's or hatchbacks as a competitor just like the Maverick can't be discounted as a competitor. All this to hammer home the point that I've made multiple times that what is a competitor to the Slate depends entirely on why you are here and what you are looking for.
