Now that the Maverick is available in AWD with the hybrid drivetrain, which gets 40 MPG, I think the long-range Slate has an uphill battle in front of it. You get 4-doors and nearly the same size bed in a chassis that is just 24" longer than the Slate. An XL Maverick hybrid AWD with no options is $32,060. Tough sell for the 250-mile RWD Slate, IMO.

If needing a pickup truck, that’s a viable option. Too bad it’s a Ford.

Get some units out there and build some Production Muscle , then adjust prices upward if demand merits doing so 📈, which ideally will happen because the truck will be such a compelling offering.

I worked for a successful millionaire who used that strategy over and over. He'd build an apartment complex, then rapidly fill it up to high occupancy using below-market rental rates. Then over the following year or two he'd raise rates gradually to whatever the market will bear.

As the saying goes "many's the slip twixt the cup and the lip". But I hope not and Slate can stick the landing at $24499 for standard battery. And maybe by production surprise us all with an "added feature" we didn't know would be stock on basic Slates. A lagniappe if you will. Many of us might be happy thinking "yeah the price went up but now (whenever now is) the vehicle has this". Leave it to marketing....there are many other ways to sweeten the deal for customers and soften the price increase.

$27K in the future isn't the same as $27K today.

Without a time machine you can't see a marketplace that will exist a year and a half in the future.

So I guessed.

Then I explained that whatever the prices are for the truck and accessories, turn out to be I hope the prices are low enough to generate demand, rapidly build a customer base, and foster brand loyalty "naturally" rather than some other strategy, like trying to artificially foster demand with profuse marketing.

Think of penetration pricing as compensating Early Adopters for helping the company build momentum and you get the idea.

IMHO one way or another the ultimate success of Slate Auto will depend on realized value of what they produce for paying customers.

We don't know what the Extended Battery option costs, nor do we know what other charges will need to be paid. That's a lot to not know!

Not a bad idea at all, even if it doesn’t change the pricing model. With more and more EVs breaking into the 300s for range, calling a 250mi battery “extended” doesn’t feel right

I just wonder what people will be willing to pay for an extra 90 or so mile range? Most of my driving is short - less than 60 mile round trips, but I would want the extra range if affordable. Are we talking $3000 or $8000 extra?

I drive an hour to work- I’ll swallow my pride and get the extended range even if it’s more than I want to pay. I hope slates not reading this. 😂
