Not direct competition since they won’t be sold here but still fun to compare.

One thing that I always think about seeing a lot of these new pickups (and other things) is that it's nice that Slate is sticking to the 'traditional' front end look with the round headlights. Seems like everyone is going with gun-slit LEDs these days.
The base model LandCruiser does a good job with the look too:

The Slate definitely has a more appealing look IMO, but they are surely trading aero for that "friendly brick" style.

I'd be interested to see what the cD, frontal area, and total drag are for these trucks. The Slate likely claws back the total drag crown by having a smaller frontal area even though it's less aerodynamic.

When comparing overseas competition, remember in many (not all) cases it is engineered to reduced safety and environmental standards and expectations. And of course, different road conditions.

Similarly, international tow ratings are also not directly comparable with US tow ratings.

True. I’m wishing that the Hilux was available here, though. I’d slum in it before The Slate.

If the Slate as we know it (small, pu, 2 door, EV) were coming from Toyota, I’d be all over it even in mid 30’s.

What's "better" about round?

I saw this in Lotte (pronounced like law-TAY) in Jakarta the other day. It comes in gas or diesel.
It’s no beauty queen. I’ll bet it is indestructible though.

I love the bed on this pickup! Especially the fold down sides, you could put a great camper on this!!! And a useful bed size!

One of the EV pickup startups that didn’t make it had a bed like this! The only problem with this pickup is that I installed a big enough solar array to power my home, business and transportation. Gas is too expensive when the solar panels are already paid for and installed!
